I need a recommedation letter from my boss who is also a graduate student, should I do it in person or by email?

I figured by email is better since if i ask him in person I am kind of putting him on the spot and he either needs to say yes or no, NOW. but by email he will have more chance to think about me and whether he can write me a good letter or not then he can respond to me at his convenience.
but alot of people say it's better to request in person
but I don't know what to do, at this point in time I am really desperate for a recommendation and don't want to ruin this letter just because I didn't ask for it properly.
please help

I would say in person, as its more personal

It's definitely better to ask in person. Start by asking if they can help you with your career path, and explain your situation.

In person....thats the point... you want to put him on the spot... its hard to reject someone to their face
