should a short email thanking the interviewer for their time suffice?

or is a card more appropriate?

while a card is more thoughtful and appropriate, many admission offices are loaded with boxes of unopened mail so sending email is more practical if you want that person to receive it reasonably soon after interview.

I just emailed them. Just make sure you know the name of your interviewer and don't accidentally say a thank you to someone else.

While we're on the subject, I have my first interview Tuesday, and I was just wondering, where do you find the email addresses of the interviewers? Will you get them at some point during the interview? Are they somewhere on the website? Thanks!

i just asked them for a business card at the end of my interview.

That's a really good idea. I wish I would've done that!

One way to remember your interviewer's name is to repeat it at the end (ex: "Thank you so much, Dr. ____"). That solidified the names for me.

Sometimes the school will give them to you. UMDNJ gave us a list of all the interviewers' emails in our folders that we got at the beginning of the day; that was nice of them.

I know this sounds like a good idea and Im not ripping it at all but my friend had 7 interviews last year and got accepted to 5 schools without a single "thank you card or email."

the thank you is more of a formality -its definitely not going to make or break your application.
