How to Shadow a Doctor?

I'm located in New York City and would like to shadow a doctor to gain some insight into whether a career in medicine is right for me. Anyone have advice on how I can go about doing this?

Ask every doctor you know, and use every contact you have. Write a letter, include a picture, and follow up. It's MUCH easier to find a DO to shadow, btw. DOs have a mentoring program - look on do-online.org. (15% of practicing physicians are DO's, 20% of medical students are at DO schools, and 60% of DOs do "MD" residencies, fyi)
