I am looking to do some radiology work/research/anything while I am currently a 3rd year medical student and was wondering how I can go about that. Do I contact a Radiologist at a hospital and ask if there is any research that I can help on, do I ask to shadow . . .?

Basically, who do I contact to find about work/research and what should I say?

Thanks.

My advice to you:

Find prominent radiologists throughout the country, or at your institution that are very active in reserach. Those that publish like no one's business. Those people are always looking for people to do all the work for them. Do research, get a publication(s). This will set u apart and show that you are interested.

Thanks for the tips!

Ask one of the radiology residents at your program which attendings are good to work with. E-mail a few of them, and somebody will bite. Also, if you have a residency coordinator, they are sometimes aware of the research opportunities.

Starting early is a great idea - if you can take a month off to do a research elective, I strongly encourage it. Most program directors will tell you that radiology electives are a waste of time. If you want to show interest, get some high quality research going.

I just recently became interested in radiology during my 3rd year and I've been struggling to find research at my home institution. I'm just curious if anyone knows who the radiologists are who get papers out like no other and are willing to work with students electronically due to distance. Any ideas?
