So, I have tried something new this semester of reading my notes aloud and trying to recreate the notes in my head but not sure if that is effective due to less repetitions rather than just straight reading. I always thought I was a read/write learner but apparently I learn best by hearing. I was wondering how other people study using auditory methods? This is mostly for biology class.

Are you able to record your lectures? Many people swear by recording lectures and listening to them later. Also, I really like watching youtube videos that explain the topic. If you can't record your lectures, you could record yourself reading your notes, and then play that back to yourself. Do you have someone you could "teach"? Explaining things out loud to someone else really works for me! Even if they have no idea what you're talking about and aren't paying too much attention, haha 🙂

Maybe make yourself a mini-podcast summarizing each lecture - both condensing/organizing the material into a manageable amount and listening to it later should help you learn! Then you can listen to them while you do other things! It's a nice way to turn shopping, exercise, laundry, etc into study time.

Is this better than reading your notes out loud to yourself or is similar to the prior?

Instead of reading your notes directly you can pretend you are teaching a class and give a lecture on the material without looking at your notes. You can even use a white board / blackboard if you have acess to one.

You can also pretend to be a youtuber teaching the material on a piece of paper on your desk. Again, try to do it without looking at your notes.

The podcast idea above is pretty good too!

Reading your notes aloud verbatim sounds like it could do two things for you: (a) it could make you feel more confident and (b) make you feel like you are studying when you are actually wasting time.

Edit: I'm going to edit this post since I provided criticism without any methods for improvement. Your peers above posted some ideas about how to learn through the auditory route - it seems some like to record lectures, listen to audio books, etc. These sounds like fine options for someone looking to learn in this way. Some more methods that come to mind is giving "jingles" to concepts or by rhyming. Anyway, hope you find something that helps.

I think it is more helpful. You can listen to it more than once and it will help save time because you can do other things at the same time. And if you take the time to organize and condense your lecture notes before you record, that preparation would also help you.
