I used schaum's when i was studying for the DAT and found it very helpful. Much more comprehensive than the kaplan blue book, but not as dense as your average text book. Plus its pretty inexpensive.

Schaum's Outline of Biology

I used cliffs AP bio and it nicely filled out the stuff not covered by Kaplan. While alot of the stuff I learned from Cliffnotes proved very helpful for Achiever, I ended up not needing the material for the actual DAT.

I used the AP Bio book, too.
