How to study effectively for Pathophysiology?

We just started this class a little while ago and it is quite interesting. However, most of the professors just bombard us with information, just massive amounts of information. E.g. Asthma lecture in 1 hour: 145 ppt slides, WITH the professor wasting time by telling us stories [interesting ones, but ones that you don't learn from, as in they have nothing to do with the subject matter]. How did you all study for it? I feel like i'm studying just to pass an exam, rather than to understand the material sometimes. Thanks for the input.

^Just came back from my first exam in the course and it was hella hard. Thanks for the advice, imma definitely try and do that.
