Reaction score

I took Ochem 1 and 2 at a CC, and the farthest we got was like Grignard reagents.

So, I have been reviewing as well as learning using my text book. I have gotten to about chapter 18 in the book. This is Carboxyllic acids and enol etc.

There a few more chapters that I should probably go through, but I am getting burnt out from studying the text book.

So what is the best method to study?

I have the Kaplan blue book as well as destroyer.

When I do the destroyer, sometimes there is a reaction that I don't recognize, and in the solution he does not mention what reaction this is, nor does he show the mechanism.

So any advice how I should go about studying would be great.

Thanks.

You memorize every single question you've ever encountered so far in your college career!

Really? Seriously Nze82? What's the point of these responses? The guy was simply asking for help and you nick pick at irrelevant information. (The OP never mentioned anywhere on his post about help in memorizing things, he just wanted to know a good way to study or review ochem) SDN is great and provides a lot of good information, but there's always jerks, *****s, or just plain insensitive people who are trying to make up for their "Napoleon complex" by making fun of people for a typo or some innocent mistake like that.

Now, don't get me wrong and feel this is an attack towards you. I've read a few of your posts and you've been pretty helpful. All am saying is, what's the point? Just stick to the point and play nice.

Or we can go round-n-round making fun of each other. Like I could make fun of you for asking a question, but using an exclamation point at the end. But what's the point!!! (snare, cymbal hit). Teh-heh, I made a funny! Seriously, I'm not attacking you just making a point cuz I saw the comment you made and just got fed up. Maybe its stress from studying and I need a hug but who knows?

I strongly encourage you to rethink your choice of words next time you decide to leave me a post (At least if you expect me to reply to it).

I agree with nze82. If he was making fun of the OP I didn't catch it. Although I don't think every reaction you've ever encountered would be appropriate, I do think every reaction in the DAT destroyer roadmaps section would be.

First build a foundation of knowledge.

What I did/am doing is for every reaction in the roadmaps, I made a note card. On the front of the card i have Reactant ??? > Product. On the back of the card I have the same reactant + chemicals > ???. It came out to be about 100 note cards or something. For the reactions I don't understand, I wikipedia them or look them up in the Kaplan book(s). Every morning I go through the cards forwards/backwards to keep up on reactions. For properties of molecules (boiling points acidity etc.), naming of compounds, isomers etc I go to the kaplan book.

Then practice.

The next step will be to work through the destroyer questions and maybe the ACS questions if I feel I need them. Then I'll be ready to do TopScore (at least on the ochem section). Just an example, hope it helps and good luck studying. 👍

Thank you GiTsticker. I had no intention of making fun of this poster. I just offered him/her my advice, because that's pretty much what I did for my own exam and it worked quite nicely. Of course, I don't expect everyone to agree with my advice.

My mistake Nze. I apologize for jumping to the wrong conclusion. Initially when I read you're comment it seemed a bit sarcastic, but looking at it now you were making a statement to just memorize every reaction. Harmless. Oops my mistake 😛

But the statement still stands to other people that do respond that way. (but not my new best friend nze 😍 j/k)
