Is anybody else confused by the directions for the UCLA secondary? I have no idea how to email the completed version since I can't save it. If you know how to send this out PLEASE offer some advice. Thanks so much !

you are supposed to print them out, rescan as a pdf file, and send it to the email address that was provided with your secondary app

Hey there I applied for ucla last cycle but can't really remember what's the instruction was and I'm not at home right now, if you describe to me what the instruction is saying maybe this will trigger my memory.

Ok....that's what I got out of the email too, but it seems way more complicated than it needs to be. I was just hoping there was a simpler way. Thanks for the help !

Yup, although my computer was able to convert the PDF into the kind where you can type it in and save data. I'm sure if you do a quick Google search you can too.

Also, 👍 for Tom Haverford!

I typed directly onto mine for the easy questions and general info stuff, printed it, rescanned and emailed it back. For the essay questions, I believe I typed the essays in word and just pasted those in. I printed the file as a new pdf and sent to the admissions office.

Scanning it in and getting the file under 5MB was a pain for me, hopefully they don't mind if the text is a little blurry!

Or... Adobe reader XI works fine, you can comment on your PDF without a problem.

last year I had no problems filling in the information in adobe and then printing to pdf. only problem is you cant save so you have to do it in one go or print sections and then later combine. i printed in sections and then merged multiple pdfs to one.

I use mac and I just opened the pdf file and typed in the essays and all the necessary info. I digitally signed my signature and saved the file and sent it. If u use a macbookpro i'm pretty sure u can just type in pdf file.

It's because the UCLA secondary file isnt "reader-enabled".

You have to reader enable it with adobe acrobat then you can edit and save with adobe reader.

I already did this and don't mind posting my edited version, but I'm not home atm.

Probably later tonight.

Also I would like to add, the instructions specifically state to "Type your Full Name" as your signature. No need for a signature with some fancy digital id encryption.

I believe that won't work as nonmac users cannot read what is saved by mac in pdf form.

If UCLA does not use mac, then that means it will appear blank.

After reading ur reply, I re-did mine by using Adobe Illustrator n made sure that window computers could open my file. Thank u so much! 🙂

I got my secondary app via email a few days ago but am having issues with the formatting... I'm currently traveling abroad and don't have printer/scanner access. How bad is it to wait until the beginning of August to submit? It would mean a 3 weak delay since I received the supplemental app.

You don't need to physically print/scan it. Type everything in to Adobe and when you click 'Print' click 'Print As/To...PDF' as an option. Save the pdf now and email that.

Do they request the supplemental application via email? Or is it on their website?

When filling out the PDF, I notice that some of my answers extend beyond the capacity of the box and I'm wondering if it'll be acceptable format-wise when UCLA takes a look at it? Are the boxes meant to be their form of character limitations?

I'm using a Macbook Pro and filling out the application on the app Preview.

Thanks!

They will not be able to read anything you write beyond the limitations of the box.

Gotcha. And regarding the mac or pc usability..should I save my answers in Adobe so that it's PC-friendly or will my version from Preview suffice?

The box given for "List any degrees, certifcates, honors or awards" is far too small for what is expected, you can fit about 20 chars.

But I'm using actual Adobe Acrobat Pro to fill it out and I can save regardless with the + sign still there so I guess it doesn't matter too much for me but for everyone else...

It will not matter. These will be emailed to the admissions office and then they will most likely be simply attached to your application (electronically or physically).

The form will be in PDF format and therefore can be read on any computer. However, I am 99% sure that they will not be able to read anything you have written beyond the box.

I am this certain because I saw my secondary printed out and attached to my app during my interview.

You can save and edit if you use adobe acrobat and "reader-enable" the document. From there, the pdf file can be opened and edited freely with adobe reader.

Thanks JAWSSS and ktran17!

Okay I just tried opening the PDF saved from my mac on a PC and all the responses were empty. Only the checked boxes were transferred. Help? :annoyed:

Go onto the predental chatroom and I'll send you a "reader enabled" version that will allow you to save and edit.

Don't feel comfortable posting it online since the supplemental was not meant for everyone.

(Don't want to get into trouble)
