Hello everyone,

So I'm starting to think about Step 1 around now and I keep hearing that others are using UWorld as they are going along and studying doing a few questions here and there. If you do this though, it seems that you wouldn't get an accurate reflection in your end % of UWorld to predict the level that you are at. Can somebody please give me some insight? I have not actually used UWorld and am planning on signing up, but I need some guidance because it is not really clear to me how people are using it to study.

Not sure if this helps with your response, but I am shooting for 260+ (please don't rag on me for writing this). Thanks again for your help.
🙂

Don't use UWorld to predict your score, use it to learn from. This come from reading the explanations and repetition.

Use NBME and the UWSA to predict your score.

and LOL at the 260+ remark.

Shoot for the stars so if you fall you still land on the moon or somewhere in the Orion Nebula. The previous poster is right though. Uworld is just a learning tool, the percentages from what I have heard are accurate off of NBME(Nostradamus of Board Medical Examinations).

As DrBowtie said, the best way to use UW is to read the explanations carefully. It would also be useful if you have a basic understanding of the step 1 materials before starting UW. If you are not prepared to that, you may choose to start with some easier and less expensive qbanks. There are a few non-subscription based qbanks (like wikitestprep and usmlexchange) that you can use while you go through the materials for the first time.

Good luck.

I see what you did there....

So if I haven't gotten through all of the basic sciences in my curriculum (organ based), then I should hold off on UWorld?

Also, what is UWSA? Thanks again 🙂

I'm not holding off on UWorld- I am using it to review MSI material and then also using it before exams to go over the topics about to be tested. There are several settings and I use the tutor (gives you correct answer right after you select an answer) and you can also pick the major subject(s) you want to go over and organ systems in those subjects so you can customize as needed while still going through questions.

I believe UWSA is the U World Self Assessment- someone correct me if I am wrong!

i agree with drbowtie, dont worry too much over your uw% so long its above 55-60%. use it as a learning tool and milk the hell out of each explanation.
if you really want to use uw as a predictor you should probably use rx or kaplan q bank through classes and uw the final 6 weeks before your exam in random timed mode.

uwsa are assessment exams you can buy from uw, kinda like the nbme.
