hmmm. They may perceive that as a conflict of interests when admissions time rolls around. If I were you I would try calling dentists offices. Try to get someone to hire you as a dental assistant, and if they say they are not hiring, ask them if they know of any dental laboratories in the area where they send out their work. there aught to be a bunch here in LI . . . and I think they would hire entry level employees.

as far as SB goes, they have their own research labs and dental labs. The research labs are probably limited to current students . . . but if you contact the student employment center you might be able to work in their dental lab.

As I do somewhat of the hiring in my lab, consider talking to the lab manager of the lab your interested in, or who ever is the lead in the lab. Most PI are stuck in an office and have very little interaction with the everyday life of the lab, where as the lab manager is in charge of the lab itself, if you get in golden with the lab manager, you would most likely get hired in the lab.

i did not work in a dental related lab, but i got a job in a hospital research lab. i am not sure how important it is to have research experience in the dental field, i would imagine that any kind of science research experience is well recieved. so you may want to look into research in a hospital, clinical trials or something along those lines. hey, you may even get paid!

Your best bet would probably be to try and get a job in a lab in your school where you attend now. I don't think a dental school will care what kind of research lab your worked in but just that you worked in a lab somewhere.

When I wanted to do research, I e-mailed my advisor and he put me in touch with a professor who did dental related research. I met with her and she offered to let me work on her project for undergraduate credit. It was a *lot* of work, but I got good experience from it.

Trying to work on your campus might be a little easier then trying to work on a dental school's campus...

But good luck with it! :luck:

Unless you attend a research university with access, most labs wont bother wanting one.

My advice:

Do research in any area, not just dental.

Many professors would be happy to have you work in their labs if you offer to volunteer.

After a semester or so, conscious professors will start paying you for the hours.

It's a great way to get to know science professors.
