how to work as an assistant wid a foreign graduate degree

hello ,
I am an international dentist , applying for various universities in the usa exam or for admission into advance standing program .

I would like some one to tell me , how can i get a job as an assistant in the us .
do i need to write any exam or is it that i can work like a registered dentist .

I really don't know and any inputs would be highly appreciated .

pls help me out guys .

Hi serenarulz,

You can work as an unregistered dental assistant with your foreign dental degree. But most of the dentists prefer DA to have x-ray license. So you have to take the Radiation health & safety exam to get the x-ray license. There are some dentists who prefer to have DA without x-ray license. May be you can prepare a resume & search for the job.

Hi , Thanks for the information. Do you have any sample resume which you can share because when you go to the wesite for DA resume they write their certificte & experience .But here as we are FTD what we should write .Dentist genrely ask ,dont you think u are overqualified for the job or are you sure .

My 2 cents..



I`m currently working as a DA with expended functions because here in Indiana you can do that I don`t have any certificate because I don`t do the X-ray so I don’t need that but is huge plus for sure .

I`ve been to dozen of interview when I was looking for DA job and yes first question is are you sure that this is what you want to do?
I mean yes I’m born in the states but my dental degree is from Europe I have plenty of experience like dental technician and dentist but when I’m applying for DA job that`s what I’m expecting to work I don`t understand why they are asking that question over and over.🙄

I was looking for a job some time in my area, local newspapers and craigslist were my best source for that.😉
