how to you mail your secondaries?

I mail it first class snailmail in a big brown envelope with 3 stamps on it to be safe. I'm debating whether or not to use delivery confirmation, if so it'd be a pain to have to go to the post office so much but may be worth it if something gets lost in the mail.

I didn't use delivery conformation since it's extra and I trust the post office. I did go to the post office to get exact postage since I don't exactly keep sheets of stamps around. I think most post offices have 24-hour automated machines that you can weigh stuff and pay for postage in cash, so it's not ridiculously inconvenient.

I folded my stuff in thirds and used regular envelopes. There was only one secondary that I used more than one stamp on, and that one was a beast, so the envelope was thick.

I used the big manila envelopes too, bringing each to the post office for exact postage. I figured a bigger envelope was less likely to be overlooked in the mail bag, lost behind the secretary's desk, blow away in the wind, etc. It was just Type A behavior (or paranoia). I've never had other mail in a standard business envelope get lost.

Send it snail mail and call in a week to confirm it was received.

When I sent my college apps back then, one of them was lost (the fee was lost, too), and nobody was responsible for it. My questions are:

1/ should I send money in an envelop ?
2/ secure mailing costs $15-20, is it worth it ?
3/ Should I call schools to check whether they've received it ?

2/ secure mailing costs $15-20, is it worth it ? - probably not but you can pay like $.50 for delivery confirmation/ tracking on standard first class mail
3/ Should I call schools to check whether they've received it - it is not a bad idea, many people do it.
