I'm assuming you couldn't work a ton of hours due to the fact that you had long hours of school and studying. Even with a job, you wouldn't make enough to support yourselves or did you?

I'm a 28 year old second year female med. student and am living with my parents until I graduate since med. school is only 35 min. away. My parents are great and all--because I get to study intensely, and I do buy my own groceries and stuff, but I don't have to worry about working a ton of hours for little money and letting my grades slip.... (I'm the type that needs to work hard to make it through this stuff, but it pays off because once I get it, I get it.)

But let me tell you, I'm looking forward to making some money (little as it is ) during residency and getting my own place where my residency is.

What did you all do? Roommates? Loans for living expenses?

This post is improperly placed in the residency forum. You would probably be better served posting in the medical student forums.

With that being said most peope use loans to cover everything. I took out max loans to cover everything. I never had a roommate, as I value privacy and order.

I lived in a ridiculously expensive one-bedroom apartment in a bad area of town (my car was stolen out of my apartment's parking lot!). I lived off financial aid.

Well, I bought my own house with a yard (small, but my grass). Decent area in St. Louis. All on a resident salary. I dont' own the BMW yet, but someday.

During medical school I survived on loans, money from a very generous grandmother and having roommates (which was a big change after living on my own for years).

During residency I lived alone again...ahhh.
