Hi guys,
this is my first post and, unfortunately, a pretty shaming one. Just recently i received a DUI and am concerned that my chances of getting into dental school have been completely destroyed. What exactly might happen? i have not been charged and will be applying this year (for 2011) so will i be able to hold of on getting charged so that they wont see it? i am a good student, 3.94 GPA, i score in the 90th percentile on most practice DAT's, i have research experience, i volunteer in hospitals, i am the leader of honor societies, etc etc. be brutally honest because it would make my life easier if i knew that i had to start reevaluating my career options now. also, are there any schools i should just flat out not apply to?

I don't know much about the subject...but a guy that subleased my place had much lower stats than you, had gotten a DUI 3 years ago, and just got into dental school. So don't lose hope, just don't do anything stupid like that again. You should be able to get in, although i'm not exactly sure how he went about explaining it to the dental school.

Similar topic... During my undergrad years I was charged on 2 occasions for a fake id, when I was 18 and then when I was 20. Both charges have since been dismissed. I know it was beyond stupid to repeat the same offense, I guess when your young you don't fullt think out the consequences. These are the only times I have been in trouble with the law. I am now about to turn 26 and have not been in any other trouble since....Do you think that these events (5/7 years ago) will greatly affect my chances of getting in?

use the search function because this topic has been brought up a few times. several people have discussed how to approach this with applications. you should find some helpful info. everyone makes mistakes, don't give up if dentistry is what you want to do.
