Hey SDN,

My undergraduate biology courses were split into 4 courses totaling 20 units. My sGPA for these 20 units was 2.48, so my plan is to retake classes to redeem my sGPA.

1. The college I am planning to take the retake fulfills the biologies with 2 courses totaling 10 units. Would these 10 units be able to replace the 20 units' worth factoring into my sGPA?

2. As a follow up question, I also am planning on retaking my Physics course, but my undergraduate physics was divided into 3 courses (Physics A, B, C) totaling to 15 units. The college I am planning to take the retake fulfills the physics with 2 courses totaling 10 units. The grades I received are as follows:
Physics A: C+ , Physics B: C , Physics C: A.
If I only retook the first semester Physics as a retake, then how would AACOMAS calculate my GPA? In other words, how would my Physics B course in which I've received the grade of a C be considered? I think it's safe to assume that the first semester Physics as a retake covers roughly half of the material Physics B covers.

I know this may be a headache, but your help would be very much appreciated!

4 courses into 20 units sounds like quarter system each course = 5 quarter units.
If your new college has 2 courses for biology each course also being 5 quarter units you would at most be able to replace two courses.
Credit replacement must be 1:1 or 1:more than 1. You would only be able to replace classes you could prove were similar in content.

The same applies to physics. I believe the Physics A class can be replaced by one of your two courses at the new college. However depending on how the material overlaps, the Physics B may be trickier.

tl;dr at most you can replace 2 biology and 2 physics, at worst 1 biology 1 physics. At very worse, none replace and they all just factor into GPA.

You're correct about the quarter system. If I wanted to replace more than 10 units worth of Biology, then how would I do so? I received a C+ across all 4 classes so I would like to do something about these grades.

You would need to take courses equivalent to them either at another 4 year, community college, or online from an accredited institution.
Look at your own school's more closely. I highly doubt they'd only have 2 quarter classes worth of biology for a full year. The third quarter is likely renamed as something else.
Ex: at my school we have Bio A, Bio B then the third one is just called Evolution and Ecology.

I believe physics A is motion and force, B is light/thermo/waves and C is magnetism/electricity. Just find a class that fulfills the subject matter and take it. At worse it won't replace and you just have another A averaged in, which isn't bad. At best you get the replacement.

Just make sure the class you are trying to replace with is 5 quarter units or 3.33+ semester units. (Although AAMCOAS has been telling people various things, better safe than sorry)
And if you come across the situation where the class is 4 units + 1 unit lab, AACOMAS will allow you to replace the 5 unit class with the 4+1.
