As I wait to hear back from schools on the 3rd of December (well, hopefully the 2nd of December at 10pm (MST)) I was wondering how everyone else will go about checking to see if they got accepted to a dental school?

Will you be feverishly checking your email and the admissions portal every 10 seconds? Will you wait until a little after midnight and open up the AADSAS portal page and cover it from top to bottom and slowly reveal each school's decision? Will you just try to turn off your phone and computer and check the morning after? Will you probably not remember that decisions are coming out and be randomly surprised by an email on your smart phone? Will you want to be surrounded by friends or alone in your room? Will you tell everyone right away or will you keep a quiet confidence and wait for people to ask?

I think I am going to bring my computer to somewhere with WIFI and make sure nobody is around... so if I get accepted I can scream as loud as I want, haha! :d

What about all of you?

I'm going out with some friends to enjoy the night and get my mind off the stressful wait. I'll keep my phone on vibrate/loud to hopefully accept any phone calls that come through.

Working in the hospital lab. But I'll have my phone on me on vibrate if/when a call or email were to come in.

Can't decide if I wanna check alone or be surrounded with friends... Don't want to be in a horrible mood if no good news haha. I've contemplated this!

Unfortunately working on 2 formal lab reports and a Judaism final (take home exam) all due on Monday. Gonna try to finish them on Sunday (like that will ever happen) so I can enjoy a few drinks with my friends.

I'm going to play lol all night long until I pass out, then, maybe when I wake up later, I might have mail ;D :luck:

I'll be in evolutionary biology lab...last day of classes before finals! Hoping for some good news! Good luck everyone!

I will be alone, locked in my room, with SDN blocked on my computer... I will not leave until I have at least one acceptance. LAWLZ. 🤣

probably stuck in the library studying for exams.. and wait for anonymous emails that will ring my iphone

will be studying for Exams I have one the very next day. Will keep my phone with me to receive calls and emails.

I will be drink my ass off, and black out till monday that a phone call wakes me up...

leave a voicemail
Good thinking. I would say that I will be sleeping through the night. But seeing that the schools I have interviewed at so far will be sending out emails between midnight and noon the next day...... I might not be getting any sleep at all.

i'll be home hitting the refresh on my browser, while holding the phone in my hand

some schools said they would call or email !!

what schools are these? I do not want to build the idea that we will be getting emails at 12:01 am. That is not helping at all

I'll be studying for my organic II lab final, my anatomy lab practical, my anatomy lecture exam, and my physics lecture exam. What a week to be slammed with 4 test. If I get in, I won't have any time for celebration!

I will be studying for a physical chemistry exam 🙁

I'll wait for calls and probably skip my 9am class, then surf reddit while I'm waiting.

FYI in the past most schools dont update AADSAS, they will call or email but only a few schools update there.

Tufts says they'll update it at 9AM

And ughh I'm gonna be so nervous checking!

Is there any consequences for waiting until after finals (Dec 10) to check? Hypothetically speaking. Realistically, I prob won't be able to curb my desire to check my emails, but I'm afraid if I get rejections, I'll be too bummed or discouraged during finals. :/

I will be working in a hospital with a lot of people that know I will be finding out about acceptance on that day. If I don't get into any schools I will be spending the rest of my day telling curious people that I failed...again.

As a second year applicant, I am so desperate. I will not be excited about acceptance. I will be relieved.:xf:

Same here wallypredoc, about the second year bit. Everyone at work knows and will be asking me.

This is a good question that I've wondered about. The only consequence I can see is having less time to decide between acceptances and put down deposits.

Oh, and I wonder when those forms for background checks go out/have to be received by schools, if you have an acceptance or a waitlist.

Hmmm, if you have to get back to a school about a whether you want to stay on a WL I wonder what kind of timeline they give you to decide or do they just assume you're staying on unless you tell them you're not...maybe someone else knows?

Those are the things I'd consider. Maybe check every couple of days instead of every second of every day. Like, check on the evening of the 3rd or 6th, instead of just waiting until the 10th? For the schools who mail out offers, you won't know until it comes in the mail anyway.

Is there anything else people need to do after they've been accepted/waitlisted/rejected?

too many exams are coming, no time to worry about it.

I wish I was still in school and had tests to preoccupy my mind

I'll be working at the lab doing data analysis and letting the calls go to voicemail.

I will be staring at my email at midnight until the email comes in...and then probably won't be able to sleep before going to work the next day to share the news one way or the other. I only applied to one school so it's a pretty simple process for me.

Really? I've been thinking about letting the calls go to voicemail but I wondered too if they might keep calling periodically until they reach you.

I'll be in vacation in Florida with my wife, putting off all my studying right until finals. There is no way I will make it through the night without checking my email at least a few times haha.

The only people that know I'm hoping for acceptances on the 3rd, are my immediate family members and my girlfriend. In fact, that's pretty much everyone that even knows I applied to dental school. For one, I didn't need the added pressure of someone asking "did you get in???" and having to potentially tell them "uhh, no, actually". Second, it affects way too much. I'm facebook friends with people from work, so if all of my friends knew and posted on my wall about it and stuff, work would know. We've been going through layoffs - what's a better reason to lay someone off if they know you have no intention of staying with the company?

Anyway, I'll probably check the portal sometime after midnight, get up in the morning, and work from home by myself. Then I'll do a big reveal to everyone if I have good news - it could be really fun. Then again, it could be a huge let down, haha.

I have the same issue with work and facebook friends. I currently have people from work friend requesting me. So I am contemplating disabling my wall for a few months. That way I can accept the friend requests and people won't be able to write "Congratulations on your acceptance to DENTAL SCHOOL!!!" or "Fail, you got rejected again!!!" on my wall for all my co-workers to see.

How do you plan on handling this? I am also afraid that if I disclose my acceptance too early I will be fired and miss out on a few months worth of nice pay-checks.

Yeah. I was thinking of making a group on Facebook and putting all of my work related people into it. Then disabling my wall to prevent people from posting to it (I can still make posts). Then, creating an announcement post, but using the "hide from" function to hide it from the work group. Then, in theory, my friends and family can find out, comment on my post all they want, but work won't see it. Then moving forward, no one will be able to post congrats on my wall. When I eventually leave work, I'll open the wall back up to everyone again.

Think it will work?

They'll either leave a message or call back later. It's not like if you don't answer the phone they won't accept you.

I took the day off of work! I'll definitely have a few drinks the night before to help me sleep, otherwise I'll be twitching all night wanting to check my email and AADSAS!

How did you keep your interviews a secret from work?!? 😕

Looks good to me! That's actually a really good idea! Or you could just block your work friends from seeing your Wall. They can't ask you about why you did that without sounding creepy...

Second the drinks! Heading out with friends to take my mind off of it.
