Hi everybody,
I'm somewhat new to this forum but everything that I've read so far has been excellent. So I'd like some advice on my problem:
I'm a M3 right now and my soon to be husband is well settled in Arizona. Since we first met, about 4 years ago, the deal has always been that I would move to Arizona and do my residency there no matter what. At hte time I agreed but now as i'm doing some research into what residencies are available there...i'm kind of disappointed. There is not a whole lot of residencies...so my question is that since I have to stay in arizona would it be ok if i applied to multiple specialties...is that even allowed...for instance i am interested in ENT (1 spot), anesth (15 spots b/w two programs) so on and so forth?
Any advice would be much appreciated....

You can apply to any programs that you want, in any field(s) you want.

Yes, you can. I wouldn't advertise the fact that you are applying to multiple specialties during interviews, but I know people who have done it, particularly with competitive specialties like ENT. I know people who applied ENT/Internal Medicine, Plastics/Gen Surg, Rads/ Int Med, Emergency Med/Peds. It can be done. You can even mix and match on your rank list, say:

1. Rads A
2. Medicine A
3. Rads B
4. Rads C
5. Medicine B

Yeah sure, you can apply to any specialty you like, but just be sure that's what you want to do with the rest of your life!
Hopefully you will match in what you really want, and not be upset 10 years from now b/c you ended up a "x" doctor in AZ... or that you ended up a "y" doctor, then 1 year after residency, you guys decided to move and spend the rest of your lives in NY, where you could have pursued any residency you liked!
