1. If I went to a school and did poorly (2.5 gpa), then went to another school and earned a degree with a 3.5 gpa (using some transfer credit as well), how would a med school look at that?

2. Same situation, but let's say after I get my BS, I go for a master's and make a 4.0. Would the med school average that with my undergrad gpa, or just look at the graduate gpa?

3. If chickens could talk, what would they say?

1. Everything is considered and calculated into your GPA. Assuming equal credits you'd have a 3.0. The upward trend will be appreciated (if someone sees your ap and you aren't screened out).

2. Masters may be appreciated as upward trend, but will not be calculated into your GPA. As far as GPA is concerned you'd be better off doing a post-bacc or SMP.

3. Don't know.

Other than a Special Masters Program (SMP) getting an advanced degree does not help you in the med school application process. You are screened by cumulative undergrad GPA (and MCAT score) primarily, which includes any postbac classes you take after graduation that are not part of a grad degree requirement.

So it would be better just to take classes after I graduate, without getting a master's? That's interesting... Where do I look up more about SMPs?

ive done an SMP and have been wondering if anyone knows how much this GPA will be counted for? is it seen as a "substitute" for the cGPA and sGPA? or just as another year of improvement, but the total GPA from undergrad is still weighted much more?

Hi riss. I was going to suggest that you PM camaras, but I saw that you found an old thread of hers. If she doesn't see it soon, send her a message.
