I initially planned to take the MCAT during next spring and also apply so I could start med school straight out of undergrad in 2021. However, after looking at my stats/EC's I decided I'd rather take an additional year to improve my app rather than rush, get rejected and have to apply again. This will also allow me to take the MCAT next summer when my class schedule will be much more chill, so it seems like a good decision.
here are my stats/EC's..how would you suggest I improve my app?
GPA: 3.81
URM, first gen student
Clinical work: 1200 hrs scribing + scribe trainer
Clinical volunteering: 70 hours in pediatric intensive care unit
Non-clinical volunteering: 50 hours at place for kids with terminal illnesses (planning to spend more time there this summer), 25 hours at food bank
Research: absolutely none yet but I've applied for a program and if i get in i should get some sort of research under my belt by the time i apply, even if its not a fancy publication.
Shadowing: 25 hrs with a general surgeon
Other: Honors student, on presidents + deans list multiple times, planning to join a club this fall (preferably something related to a hobby though)
