having spent another night on call and seen elderly(80-90 yo)patients brought down from the icu for yet another amputation/bowelresection while being kept alive with high levels of peep and levophed makes me wonder how folks here would prefer to pass on...?
my concept would involve a morphine pump, a pack of cigarettes and a room with a view.... maybe beyonce' as a nurse for added benefit 😀
what are your thoughts?

Fentanyl patch and a fishin' pole, as faaar away from a hospital as possible, preferably at a resort with lots of beer and fine ass honeys.

I'd not do the resort, though... how about a mountain cabin with a bunch of hottie home care nurses (known as HHCN from henceforth).

With my genetics, i'm probably not gonna live past 60 anyways, so hopefully while havin' hot and raunchy sex with a 20 yr old hottie...but not before i pass oral boards....

Man, NOT like that. That sounds like the definition of insanity IMO.

I'll take all of your suggestions but replace the cigarettes with a nice cigar, change the beyonce' to someone like jessica alba, and maybe a bottle of Balvenie Double Wood......

Balvenie Double Wood. Good start, especially for a med student, but not how I'm going out...
Out on the boat. A bottle of Highland Park 40 yr followed by Glenfiddich 50 year old, some perfectly hand rolled cigars, some good friends (who will appreciate the scotch) and finally a speedball the size of Rhode Island right after sunset. That's the way to check out. They can finish off the booze before heading back to shore and calling for the bus for me. They can have the boat too.👍

I would like to go suddenly and without warning. I can't imagine myself in these vacation-like scenarios waiting for death and I don't want to be dead already but kept alive at a hospital/hospice.

Although morphine pump and a pack of cigarettes could easily fit into the "suddenly and without warning" category.. 🙂
 
The worst thing to me is not that people die. We're all gonna go sooner or later. I like your guys' visions for the denouement.

But the way people live their last hours/days or god forbid, months in the hospital is a travesty. If you're anyplace that has a palliative care service, I think the right thing to do is to get them involved early on cases of complex, life-threatening illness, even if potentially life-saving treatment is still being given. These teams can help formulate goals of care that are consistent with reality and can bring a lot of comfort and humanity to patients and their families.

I'm in between rabbit. I want to be in a vacation type setting -- heck who doesn't want to go out while enjoying life -- but still want it to be nice and quick and without warning.

I'd like to hear more of the female version of the ultimate "going out scenario". It seems, we men, are without creativity. We all want to go out in some orgasmic overload.

What do females really want on their death bed?

Mine would probably include making some ridiculous turns down the face of some unbelievably steep face. So steep that every turn launched me in the air and down the face 50 ft before making contact again just in time to start the next turn.



Oh yeah, and I'd be doing all that and also making passionate love to Selma Hayek.

Yeah, I just need one good woman.

Speedball (alternatively known as snowballing or powerballing) is a term commonly referring to the hazardous[1] intravenous use of heroin and cocaine together in the same syringe. The combination is also known as moonrocks when smoked.
Cocaine acts as a stimulant, whereas heroin acts as a depressant. Coadministration provides an intense rush of euphoria with a high that combines both effects of the drugs, while excluding the negative effects, such as anxiety and sedation.

Likewise. I don't want to be all stressed out working when times comes. No/minimal pain would be nice too.. that's where the morphine drip comes into play.

There is a guy planning to set the record for the highest altitude skydive - jumping from the outer stratosphere down to the motherland and he will surpass the speed of sound during his freefall. Just saw that on the news. I think that would be a pretty cool way to die - it fits my criteria so that's bonus.

Dim light, super soft canopy bed with tons of pillows, loaded on cheese enchiladas and mint chocolate chip ice cream, nice EtOH buzz going on, some folky ambient music, with my love stroking my hair and just go to sleep with a smile.

OK, this is definitely NOT the way I want to go. I can't think of a worse way to go than to discover the secret formula to attract hot horny chicks and then die right before you can actually use the **** for the next 40 years.

I want to go after I'm all washed up with nothing left and do something you always wanted to do but can only do it once, like maybe flying off of a 120 story building using your arms as wings or maybe going into Osama's cave as a suicide bomber. That would be after about 50 years on that AXE island and a few bodily functions have begun to break down.
