Has anyone gotten a Howard interview yet? I have gotten interviews from all my other schools, UAB, MCG, Meharry, UTMemphis, but nothing form Howard have they started contacting people yet?
 
When did you get your Meharry interview invite? By phone, e-mail, US mail?
 
i guess they are going to start sending out interviews this week, hopefully.
 
I'll be there on Monday the 3rd, God-Willing.
 
Friday Nov. 7th. I guess we won't see each other then.

If you guys need help getting around or anything let me know, I live in northern VA like 30 mins from HU so I know the area pretty well, hotels, etc.
 
Yeah, me too!! I live in NW DC, like 2 metro stops away from the Howard stop.
 
lol cool, I use to live in NW by Foggy Bottom.
 
I don't have an interview there (yet, i Hope) but i wanted to be included in the I live in NW DC right now club.😎
 
how did u guys get the invite thru mail or email....? i thought i would get the invite..mmmm just a little surprise!!!

Yea, I'm Egyptian and I marked "other" on AADSAS so I guess that counts.

I'm Asian but I doubt being South East Asian would count as being a minority for Dental school anymore. According to the numbers (from ADEA official guide to dental school 2008), almost half (ok, maybe 1/3) of the applicants who apply to Howard were Asian (1,000 applicants!) and only about 19 enrolled. I think its only if you're African American, Hispanic, or Native American that you would actually get an advantage. Being Asian probably hurts more than it helps. I think being and "other" could probably have a neutral effect. 🙄
Its really funny now that I think about it, is Asian even considered a Minority when you apply for Grad school anymore?

if you are chinese and born in jamaica like some people in florida, I would consider you a minority among minorities. 😉

For those who received the invite email last week, did you get an official e-invite after letting them know what day you could come?
 
I interviewed at Howard on October 10, 2008 which was the very first interview. It was real laid back. Just be yourself. For those that do not know, Howard chooses candidates to interview based on their grades first and foremost then your other factors play in. They do not care what color you are. The dental school at Howard is extremely diverse which you will notice once you get here. Stop spreading propaganda about African Americans and minorities getting priority, this is no longer the case. I was told this by the assistant dean herself. Makes me sick when I hear nonsense like this. Good luck to all interviewees.

LOL I was thinking I might have been the only one. I just needed to be sure about everything because I'm coming all the way from Cali and needed to make my arrangements. I'll give it a few more days then if not I'll probably shoot them an email. Thanks!

They said they would send something by Oct 28th in the original email. I emailed them today I will let you know what they say back.
 
Just got my Howard interview invitation today. Does anyone know about the essay topics? and how long should it be?

I didn't receive a confirmation after I confirmed my date and everything was fine when I arrived for my interview. I'm sure you'll will be just fine.

Congrats, but I don't think you'll find anyone who will let you know the essay topic. It is not a big deal at all, I suppose though you could make it however long you want although I think most people just did one page. Just practice your interview skills and enjoy the visit, it is a great place to be it seems like. Good luck!
 
hey, i was just granted a howard interview. mine is scheduled for this friday. i wouldn't worry if you haven't received an invite yet, its still relatively early

You have to write an on the spot essay. Don't worry its not too bad. Just bea honest and write your opinion.

I just interviewed there today, very chill no worry atmosphere...and the essay was simple.

Glad to hear that it was laid back. That's what everyone says. If everyone is all stuffy then my nerves will start to kick in. I'm so excited!

Hey, I'll be there on the 14th! Will anyone else be there?

Does anyone know if they do group interviews?

Is the three hours set aside for one interviewee? Does that include breaks? I'm not familiar with this process at all.

The interview is only like 15-20 mins, very chill. The rest is admissions people and financial aid people talking, and a tour.

I might be wrong to assume this, but if you are saying Howard picks you based on your grades FIRST, how is it that with their average being DAT is 17AA PAT 16 and Sci GPA 3.0, and mine being above that, I still did not hear ANYTHING from them, and I know 2 people who are a minority at my undergrad, who have lower scores then me who got an interview invite already?
