Hi there guys!

Does anyone know where you can find more detailed information about a school's accreditation status? I received an interview at Howard U and I'm flying up there in about two weeks. This is the only school I have heard back from and may be my only option. I have been reading on here that they have a really bad rep.

Thanks!

i just got an interview at howard also.. im confused abt the accredition..i did hear back from another school but I am placed on the waiting list..so I will go to this interview..

what date is your interview? Mine will be on jan 16 @ noon

jan 17th at 11am

I think we suppose to talk with Ms Sconion. I called the school back because they didnt send me a email as they told me, and one lady said Ms Sconion was on the vacation until New year. Hope she is in office today. 🙂

yeah i spoke to her today.. I mean I am sure the girl i spoke to didnt know what waas going on..but that was just really unprofessional..

I received an interview invite today too, but I haven't called her back to set up the date..I'm still deciding whether I'd want to go there or not because of the probationary status, since it'd be expensive for me to fly to DC from California *sigh*

Hi rx22

Could you tell me when did you turn in your application(PCAS) for Howard U?

I turned in my application in mid Nov and the application was sent out in early Dec, and I still haven't heard back anything from them...🙁

Thanks~

i turned my pharmcas application in october..
dont worry they are said to be unorganized! so you might hear something soon..and besides I think these are their first interviews excluding the EDs

What are your stats Rx?

I submitted pharmcas end of october and was invited for an interview. You'll probably be considered for the next interview date since your application was turned in after mine.

Btw, I'm going to decline the interview, guys. It's just too far of a trip for a school that's been on probation twice.

Good luck with the Howard interview!

Howard probation status is not that serious at this point. I don't like Howard just because of their rude attitude to proepective student and their disorganized process. When I was invited for interview, I discussed very seriously about their status with one of the admission committee. She clearly explained that the reason is b/c of lack of faculty. That is why they only selected 50 students since last year.
Also, the school itself is great and there are lots of things to do around the school. It is at the center of DC area.

Probably beating a dead horse, but did any non-African American get an interview from Howard?

thanks, your replies are appreciated. 🙂

I interviewed there last year and was shocked to see that there were many more non-African Americans interviewing that day. I remember about 12 students interviewing with me on that day and only 3 (maybe four) of us were African American.

I got a question where only suppose to submit our supplement application if we get invited to an interview rite?

I applied to Howard last year. Not African-American (white). Roughly a 3.6 GPA (including 3.4 undergraduate humanities degree from a top 20 college and 4.0 for prerequisites I took at community college a decade later). 99th percentile on the PCAT, no sections lower than 85th. No pharmacy experience. Howard is the only school that at minimum did not interview me.

It would have been easier on my family for me to have gone there, but I am relieved in a way that I was not forced to make the choice. I would ask about licensure pass rates at your interview since that is one thing that the accreditation committee specifically mentioned in its report. (You might be able to read the probation letter in the Howard newpaper. It used to be online.)

Well u guys think about it for a little. Howard had been on probation since the last application cycle, and they had to select fewer students. I hypothesize that to save themselves from too much work, they prefer to offer interviews to credentials in the mid-range than to those with very strong credentials, because the probability that they will get acceptance elsewhere is very high, and as such will quickly decline any offer of acceptance because of the probationary status. I'm thinking that could explain why you weren't offered an interview last year at the very least..............Anybody thinks it makes sense??

wow! i commend you on scores and greades. i agree with the poster above about not interviewing the best students. that sucks..................... off topic. what happens if the school losses it's accreditation??? are the current pharm students just sol or what???

Hi all:

I am a Howard pharmacy student and I have a few things to let some of you on here know:

1. Yes, Howard is on probation, BUT after a recent AACP visit, I am positive that the probabation status will be removed. New faculty have been hired and new classrooms have been made available for Pharmacy students.

2. If you have been invited for an interview you should consider yourself fortunate. Howard is a good school despite all the administrative problems. Last year there where 2,500 applicants.....yes 2,500 and only 50 people where choosen. So to recieve an interview is something that you should be proud of and make the best of it.

3. If YOU don't think Howard is a reputable school and you have been invited for an interview, then dont bother to show up, leave the spot for someone else who WANTS to come here.

4. You have to be patient. As may of you have stated already, you have not recieved the email that was supposed to be sent out and you have called and been redirected to other people that seem not to know what is going on. This is why it is important to be patient. LikeI said the application number will be high, and there is not enough manpower to go through all applications at a fast pace, that is what causes the organization. Because of the lack of manpower and speed of reviewing applications, Howard does interview up until the end of April... I think.

5. Make copies of all the forms that you have sent or are bringing to your interview, and keep them in a place that you can find them in case the documents happen to be misplaced.

6. Dress professionally to the interview. First impressions are HUGE

7. Whether you attend Pharmacy school in California, Texas, DC, Florida, Main or wherever.....when you get out you will have a PharmD.

GOOd LUCK to ALL

That's wassup!!!

Hello future PharmD's. I know many of you are preparing for your interview here at Howard. I just wanted to encourage some of you to get to know a little about one another and even exchange email addresses before or after your interviews.
The reason I say this is because your interview day may be the day that you will find a roomate for the fall semester. It is much better to pay for the rent on the east coast as two people instead of just on your own. Many of you will be coming from different parts of the country, so you will be new to the D.C. area. If you exchange emails with someone who is also not from the area you all may be able to stay in contact and after you ARE accepted you can start the irritating processes of finding housing.

Success too all!!

P.S. Be prepared and be CONFIDENT!

warrior,

i'm from chicago and will be flying out on Jan. 15th on AA. if u wanna fly out there a couple days early, pm me.

re: their probation dilemma, i feel that a school that has been offering a pharmacy degree since 1870 will do everything in it's power to get things right. yeah, it's the second time on probation, but sometimes you're at your best when your back's up against the wall.

besides, i'm not the best student anways and had my share of difficulties. if i get accepted, i will welcome the challenge with open arms ... and a huge smile.

to tell you the truth, i hope all of you that are worried about the probation turn down the interview. that way, my chances of acceptance are better! 😀

hey im from chicago too..that makes it three of us! im surprised..

im flying out the 16th from ohare and will be staying with family..and yeah im not too worried abt their probation status..atleast until and if i am accepted 🙂

THANKS for all the information! I was wondering if you could let all of the upcoming interviewees know more about the interview process. The letter said something about 2 quizzes? What are these quizzes on? Thanks a lot for the help!
