I have not even seen any member here got interview invitation!!!

Well, I did have an interview on November 19th from them! And I am all the way from California! And I haven't heard a response from them at all! Only that they needed my official transcript, which I had sent to them. I was wondering if anyone from that group was accepted since it was only FOUR of us interviewed on that date! So it was pretty pleasant! We will see what happens! I know they are really slow since they have only one person working at the admission office. Ugh! anyone get accepted or anyone response of any progress and information would help ease my mind...? lol! 😕

Don't let this pharmacy school be worth your anxiety. They will be doing heavy interviewing starting in March after the January PCAT scores are released. But, please do understand they are extremely slower than other schools and rude as well when you call them. Just put down deposits for other schools Howard is not necessarily a great pharmacy school!!

Yeah, I know, they are not prestigious or anything like that. But I haven't heard from any other schools about an interview! I have my list below of the schools that I have applied to. And Howard, for me has the greatest chance since I got an interview with them. And it wasn't the best looking school at all! and I hoping for the other three that I have applied to. It just the anxiety from the WAITING GAME THAT I HATE! I just want some kinda of back up guarantee if you know what I mean. And I only applied to out-of-state schools from California because I have been living here my whole life. ERG! i hate the waiting game

Do you mind sharing why howard isn't that good of a school, and why it is not prestigious? i have heard that they are slow when it comes to admissions, but why all the down play towards their program. I am just curious? are their facilities bad? faculty not good? curriculum not good? I have heard so much negative things about this school, but never any evidence or examples as to why. I am just curious. what are your guys experience with the program?

Scheduled my interview today. They offered several dates in March.

They just offered me an invite, but I haven't heard good things about the program so........ Declined

Not sure I'm going to attend. But it's so close to home and during my break... We'll see.

well good luck if you do decide to go, post your experiences, I'm interested to see what it is like.

Hey guys,

I was interviewed back in October and then was accepted in November. This pharmacy school has a small staff (mentioned during my interview), so it is understandable that it will take time to get a response. Also the Admission Committee meets on irregular intervals to decide the candidates, which could also factor in the response delay. Overall just have patience with this school and you won't be a nervous wreak  I'm from CA and it didn't take long when I found out I was accepted.

Good luck to all who will be interviewed soon 🙂 and I'm looking forward to meet all who decided to attend Howard this August 🙂

have u guys got an email confirmation for interview invite? They said they will send me an email confirmation after they called me for an interview. But I haven't got an email yet.

They told me it will come within the next couple days

I received a call too. I dont know if I should go to the interview granted that I was accepted to several schools. I heard bad tihngs aobut the school but no evidence to support it.

Can anyone shed some light about the school? i hear that the campus is predominately africian american? i dont have a problem with that is just the area around it. DC isnt the safest place to live.

A few years ago Howard was put on probation for a short amount of time after something having something like a 50-60% pass rate on the NAPLEX. I think. This is just something I vaguely remember from another thread. Other than that it seems people are annoyed by the interview process?

Howard isn't in the best part of DC but it's not too bad. I wouldn't worry about that too much but then again I'm used to DC. I think what everyone always says holds true in this situation... Just be smart and know your surroundings and you should be ok. There are definitely schools in more dangerous areas.

I'm deciding whether I'll interview here too.

I received and interview invite today too but after reading the posts on this thread I don't think im going to accept the interview offer...

I'm from CA too, just got an interview invite today, I went ahead and accepted it, took the furthest date out that they had to offer which was 3/10. Do you remember which hotel you stayed at? After reading this thread and doing a couple other researches outside, obviously I know there are bad parts in D.C. and wanted to find a decent stay for the interview so thought I'd ask. thanks! 🙂

I received a call on Monday during class. I have yet to call back with a response regarding the interview though. I love DC, but Im weary of Howard's pharm program...

If I decide to cancel my interview I'm not sure they will have any applicants left..

do you think we will have both math test and writing sample for the interview?
or only Math Test?

If you took the essay part with your PCAT, you wouldn't have to write an essay.

I've read not so great things about this program as well..and here is an article I found

PROBATION FOR HOWARD'S PHARMACY PROGRAM (washingtonpost)

Probation for Howard's Pharmacy Program
Agency Is Concerned About Facilities
By Susan Kinzie and Susan Levine
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, February 28, 2006; Page B07

Howard University's doctor of pharmacy program has been put on probation by the national accrediting agency, leaving some students worried about whether their educations are at risk.

"It does not mean we're not accredited," said Interim Dean Beatrice Adderley-Kelly, who met with School of Pharmacy students Friday to reassure them that their degrees are not in jeopardy. "We are in probationary status, and we're taking steps to make sure that it's removed."

The pharmacy school is accredited through the end of the 2006-07 academic year by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the independent agency that evaluates such programs to ensure quality and standards.

School officials had been working to solve issues raised by the council but learned this month that they had not done enough.

If the school fails to comply, then the accreditation could be yanked.

One of the agency's major concerns "had to do with our space needs," including classroom areas, Adderley-Kelly said. "Increasing enrollment has affected our space."

The school operates out of a four-story building constructed on the main campus in Washington in the mid-1950s and in an annex next door, according to the school's Web site.

"We have put a plan in place," Adderley-Kelly said, "and we have already started doing some of those things" to address the concerns. The school is completing a self-study and will undergo its annual review by the accrediting agency in September, with corrective measures in place before then, she said.

She declined to discuss specific steps last night. This week, she will meet with students to detail the plan.

Two professors in the pharmacy school said they have received many questions from students, some of whom have demanded answers from administrators and threatened to protest.

Since 2002, 4 of the 25 medical residency programs at Howard's hospital have lost accreditation, including emergency medicine and pediatrics, and three others were voluntarily withdrawn from accreditation by the university.

Several of the residency programs, which provide specialized training after medical school for new doctors, continue to operate on qualified status.

The School of Pharmacy, which offers professional and graduate degree programs, is part of Howard's early history: The first student to graduate from the university, in 1870, received a doctor of pharmacy degree.

Since 1997, the school has been part of the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. A national search is underway for a permanent dean, with someone expected to be named by July 1, a year after Adderley-Kelly stepped in.

Staff researcher Madonna Lebling contributed to this report.

That was ages ago and their accreditation as been re-instated. Any fact about their current program and status would help give credit to your worry.

The Metro is your best shot at transportation. You can ride the yellow line from Ronald Reagan to Shaw-Howard, and walk the distance to campus. Or ride the bus from the station to campus...It's very simple and convenient. Grab a map at the station and keep your ears wide open for the stops.

thanks Li0nh3. greatly appreciated

For alot of you worried, Howard is a good school. The area is very culturally diverse and the night life is wonderful. I'm not personally applying to Howard because I missed application deadline but DC has alot of historic background and things to do. MD and VA are also close by and you don't need a car to live in DC as there are cabs, busses etc. to get around. If I were you all, I would give the school a chance and go to the interview. See it for your self! Best of luck to you all! 🙂

I'm from the DC suburbs and love the city. That's why this decision is somewhat tough for me, but I feel like I would be choosing this school solely for the location and not for academic reasons. If I go to the interview perhaps I will see things differently, but at least in my eyes other schools are offering more from the academic standpoint.

I interviewed at Howard back in November. The Interview was actually quite fast due to only 4 students interviewing at the time. And there was a short 30 minute math test (SIMPLE MULTIPLICATION and CONVERSIONS). They had also given a tour.

There is only one faculty member at the admissions office.

But the 4th year students that we were touring had a lot to offer and they seemed pretty adamant that Howard was a great school for them.

Since, I am from Cali, the weather in DC was crap during that time of year so I will have to get use to that anywhere I will go.

I think people should interview at the school and give it a chance...

I will grant you that the school is very old, but they probably know what they are doing if they have been around for so long and DC itself provides so many pharmaceutical opportunities since we are in DC after all... Think about it!

They might have been under probation during that 2005-2006 year, but they don't have a budget like other schools (hence, the one faculty member at the admissions office, lol), but they do have new facilities for the new pharmacy students, saw them at the interview including new dispensing lab, computer lab, small lecture classes, and seem like students were very tight with each other.

The faculty members that I interviewed with were very easy to talk to you. And the school is culturally diverse among minority crowds. The 4th-year students suggested not to live by the school and live somewhere not in the area of the school, so that you can experience two areas of DC at once. Since DC HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER and EXPERIENCE!

But I have to admit, the admission office is SLOW! and responding to my application since I interviewed in NOVEMBER! erg! lol! oh well at least I will be interviewin at other schools and hearing from them before I get this one. (I hate the WAITING GAME!)

But overall, I don't think it was that bad to what people make it out to be! If they been around for so long, they have to be doing something right!

Howard is like any other school. Its up to you to make it out to be great. You can go to the best pharmacy school, go through the motions, and end up working retail. On the other hand, Howard is in D.C. with many alumni in the area. You have a strong Federal government presence so the opportunities for FDA, NIH, CDC internships may be better than other schools. One thing I learned while at Howard is, like many HBCUs, alumni take care of each other. Also there are tons of hospitals in the DC area (like Georgetown, the VA, Washington Hospital Center, Children's Hospital) so the opportunity is there to do a wide variety of rotations. So many times I see people rate schools without realizing its what you do while on rotation that really opens doors to residencies and opportunities outside retail. This is true at any school, but at Howard its proximity to opportunity can't be discounted.

Refreshing to hear the opposing view.. especially from a graduate. So as of now I plan on going to the interview after all to see what kind of impression I get.

I'm glad to hear this! Goodluck and bring back feedback once you're done!
👍

Just got invited to interview... again... I got invited to interview last week and picked a date, got an email confirming. Just got the same phone call.

Needless to say I was confused and scheduled myself again...

Maybe I have double the chances of getting accepted? Or maybe they will expect me to show up at some other time and deny me 😕

Just got my acceptance letter today! I interviewed Jan 26th. Goodluck with yours

I applied to 2 schools back in around July .. By the time i get accepted from the other school, Howard was still processing my application .. 🙁 .. By the time I am settled w/ the other school, Howard wants me to go in for the interview .. 🙁 .. Other than the delay in administrative works, my friend loves it there ..

I interviewed back in mid January and got my acceptance letter last week. I will not be attending so there will be 1 extra seat. I really regretted going to the interview because i got accepted to another pharmacy school the morning of the Howard interview. That would have saved me 500 bucks, but i had to play it safe.

Best of luck to all those accepted and still waiting.

I was accepted, but I think I am going to decline my seat. Though the opportunities available by going to a school located in DC is very tempting and its class size is also smaller than the school I plan on attending, but my pharmacist's father in law graduated there a few years ago and adamantly does not recommend me going there.

So good luck to the rest of you. I am going to mull it over for two more days, but it's very likely there will be another seat opening up.

I know, I have heard that too, but if its the only one that accepts me, I'll go.:xf:

Does anyone get rejected from Howard if you interviewed? And when do they give the last round of acceptance letters? Just curious!

Despite the poor reviews, I was hoping Howard would give me a better impression after the interview. Let me just say, I received my interview right after my application was sent. This was early November. No word yet. The "not enough staffing" excuse just isn't cutting it any longer.

I am finishing my 1st year at Howard. Even though I got accepted to four other Pharmacy Schools last year, I chose Howard for multiple of reasons. Anyhow, after a year here, I did not regret my decision. Yes, there are some things that this school needs to look into. However, just like any other pharmacy schools, success is really up to us!

:woot: i received my acceptance letter today! i'm so happy! i actually interviewed all the way back in october...so for those still waiting, there is still hope!!

I had my interview on March 9th and I just received my acceptance letter. Just wanted to give ppl an idea of the time frame.
