you are african american? if not then forget this school. if yes, go ahead and apply. a 25 percentile composite with community service can get you in.
this school is for the african americans who are at a disadvantage in this community. they accept few non-minority students but only if they done enough community service. they don't have minimum pcat scores and the minimum gpa is only 2.5.

He is right about the GPA requirement is 2.5
they dont have a minimum posted on their website, but with a min 2.5 GPA i imagine your PCAT doesnt have to be great
He is also right about them accepting few "non-minorities"....
it even says on their mission statement that they want t "To recruit, train and educate qualified African-American and other ethnically diverse minority students to assume leadership roles in pharmacy."
Maryland has a minimum 2.5 gpa requirement and had a mean gpa of 3.4, compared to the howard mean of 3.39. I believe you on the minority preference, but if there is data on the %of minorities accepted I'd like to see it for my own knowledge. I just know from living in the area that it is a mostly black undergrad school.
Why do they discriminate against Euro-American applicants?
they have to understand that most of the minorities can't compete with the average applicant. it maybe easy for you to get a 3.5 but for them it is very difficult. i am not a minority so i think it is fair for them to have a school that cares about them. take a look around and you will find no more than 3 schools like this in the entire nation so non-minorities shouldn't worry about this much.
exactly...there are only 2 schools that I kno of that are primarily for african americans .....every other school is mostly caucasian and that goes for every school in the nation not just pharmcy....and it is not hard to get a 3.5 well at least not for me...ive always had 3.9s even in high school and i was the only african american in my classes....but yes i attend an all black school now and you are right it is hard for my peers ..they settle for 2.0-3.0...but i dont think its bc they 'cant'..they just dont care as much as I do or others that want to pursue some higher education.

I don't care if its "only" three schools. Discrimination in just one school is too much.
they probably grew up in a different environment than us. i worked in an area filled with minorities for more than 8 years and many have problems learning the materials. i know a guy who studied hard and he couldn't get higher than a C in anatomy and physiology. i am sure you will find someone who grew up in a rich family and happens to be African american and they have easier time excelling in college. i agree discrimination is bad but some schools want to balance the field by increasing the amount of minorities in pharmacies. what is more interesting is the number of asians and indians in the health care industry. they dominate all health care fields lol. this might not be true but according to all the pictures that i saw on the school websites it seems like the Caucasians are the new minorities in the health care industry .
Giving someone special benefits simply because of the color of their skin is wrong. It is racism. It is discrimination.
What if a poor European-American can only get a C no matter how hard he tries?

No they cannot! Howard is violating the civil rights of thousands of European-Americans every year. Knowingly choosing students based on the color of their skin is against the law.

I agree discrimination against blacks is wrong.
It is no less immoral and illegal to discriminate against European-Americans (many of whom are poor) in the educational system.
Howard's racist policy of choosing students based on the color of their skin must stop!

how is their policy racist? there are many european-americans at howard but you have to understand that howard is a HISTORICALLY BLACK UNIVERSITY!! (HBCU) lol ..how is it wrong that their mission is to increase african american scientists or pharmacists?!!! is it soo freakin wrong to want to have or see more blacks when you walk into the pharmacy?? that makes no sense! your saying its wrong for an HBCU! to accept blacks when its a HBCU!!!!! give me a break..this is ridiculous...caucasians and anyone else can go to howard if they want ..i go to a HBCU also and we have plenty of other races, ...of course its not alot of other races b.c its a HBCU! why would you WANT to go a hbcu?!just like i wouldnt want to go to a school that i KNEW was all white or asian or whatever!you want to see ppl just like you and not feel judged all the time.. when you have been discriminated against due to the color of your skin then and only then will your point be valid...this has nothn to do with ppl bein poor.everybody of all races has ppl that are poor! this is something deeper than that so dont give me that...

Revenge is primitive.
Howard intentionally gives Black students an unfair advantage over European-American students. Skin color is a determining factor of acceptance. That is blatant, institutional racism!
The entire HCBU system should be dismantled. Discrimination is illegal, unconstitutional and immoral.
i bet you and others would just loooove that..just another way to prevent minorities from obtaining an education...you dont even really care...all u read was skin color..thats not even the determining factor...ur trying to say that all you have to do is be black which is wrong.....do your research b4 u make false claims....you have to have a strong academic background to get into Howard University..it is the most prestigious HBCU there is.....all you saw was skin color ....my point exactly....

hornblower u talk a lot of trash.......first revenge is immoral..true, but slavery isnt humanistic at all, second the grade that you get in college depends ONLY on the amount of time that u take to study, and if u still having bad grades, that means u are using the wrong methods, not that u have the wrong color or u grew up in a wrong place. I said that because i am a black person(wrong color for u),who grew up in africa(probably wrong place for u), who doesnt speak english as a first language(i speak french) and i go to a private "white" school in the U.S and believe....only few can keep up wit me academically....so, pleaz stop talking trash and come up with something better when u wanna talk about school that dedicate their work to minorities....
