I need to pick one of these hospitals to see since they both have interviews on the only date I could see either program. I'm not crazy about Howard's location (bad part of Wash DC) but Georgetown's reputation isn't the greatest either. I think both programs may be on probation currently. Any thoughts?

I would go with the Georgetown interview.

Howard: smaller program, up and down over the recent years, rotate through several hospitals in NW/NE DC; however, location should not be a factor as Georgetown residents rotate out of Washington Hospital Center, which is literally 5 minutes up the road on Irving.

Georgetown: larger program with a great deal of flux (faculty), on probation mostly for inadequate number reporting by an outgoing class, rotates through 4 hospitals to maintain numbers VA/DC/MD; but does always carry a known name which will help with fellowship applications.

Having said that, I've worked with wonderful and capable graduates of both programs. As with many other programs, there are ups and downs, and I'm sure they'll both be fine in the long run.

Good luck!
