Hello everyone! I am in desperate need of advice, and I am wondering if some of you who've been through this can help me...so I am applying on June 1st this year and can't come up with that list of schools...i have almost everything ready to be sent, but can't decide on any schools so far...my GPA is 3.95 (don't know my science GPA)...i took my DAT last July but this is the first time applying...I got
PA 20
QR 19
RC 19
BIO 24
GEN CHEM 27
ORG 26
TS 26
AA 23
I have a decent amount of shadowing and assisting, but i come from a small liberal arts college...should I even bother to apply to Harvard, Columbia, Nova, Tufts, Loma Linda, NYU? Are those 19s going to bring me down? How about backup schools? Is Howard a bit respectable? Meharry? I would greatly appreciate any kind of advice...I have to come up with that list...is 15 schools too little? How can you decide what school is good and if they would want you? Is there a shortcut 🙂 or do i have to go through all the websites?

i don't know whether this post makes me want to laugh... or cry.

I'm sorry if my message came out awkward...although i've been e member on this website for a while, I hardly posted anything...but now I don't have anyone to give me advice about dental schools and I feel that time is very short...that's why I thought someone could help me here. Thanks though!

Relax people. Her 19 QR suggest that her quantitative reasoning is just normal. I mean, it's decent, but it's not spectacular. So someone with a 22+ QR please explain to her what her numerical chances are with a 23AA and a 3.95GPA.

But in all seriousness, she's an automatic rejection from the less selective schools. Her chances at Columbia's high. But she's an automatic rejection for Nova.

Isn't Nova considered "lower rank" than Columbia? I mean if Columbia would consider me, shouldn't Nova too? Again, I'm sorry for being confused...last time someone from my college applied to dental school was about 3 years ago, and my dentist graduated from a dental school that doesn't even exist anymore, so I really don't have too many info sources 🙂

Over qualified for Nova or NYU.

... and howard, and meharry.

i worked with someone who was valedictorian of his school as a chem major - bu flat out rejected him because they knew he'd never end up going there... now he's at stony brook.

that's horrible though...so basically you're screwed either way.... even if you apply to better schools or worse schools than your level? so you have to guess your level?

Yeap and from my experience, you probably will not even hear back from your back up schools like Nyu or Tufts until December.

Just apply to the entire spectrum.. Especially your state school (if it exists). Apply to a few Ivy's (i guess there are only a few) some private, some public that admit a fair number of out-of-state, and then your backups. But for you these would not be howard or meharry. Look at louisville, nyu, tufts, nova, etc. Schools that residency doesn't matter as much or at all. I don't think you should be worried with stats like yours but keep the edge on, if you let them go to your head, it may screw you.

Interesting. High gpa/high DAT but cannot find a way out of a paper bag.

:laugh::laugh: ... exactly what I was thinking. Knowing how badly people have gotten torn apart in the past for posts like this, I'm surprised at how mild the flaming was...

I had a TS 23 and AA 22 and gpa of 3.91 and a lot of good letters and experience, and I got interviewed at Harvard. Definitely apply.

Are you accepted or waitlisted?

I would say definitely apply to Harvard... it can't hurt! I honestly applied just to see if I would get in... and I did even with a 19 QR and 19 Reading (others were obviously higher). Although they did bring these #s up at my interview. Good luck!

you'll surprise yourself. apply to every school you'd be interested in cuz you have a great chance. also, those posts above are correct that you probably wont get interviewed at Nova, NYU etc. because they don't wanna interview people and accept them if they aren't gonna enroll there. it makes their stats look bad. but hey, its good for you too cuz they probably wont contact you til you've already been accepted to your higher choice schools. that way, you won't waste money interviewing at schools at the bottom of your list. i was kinda surprised at this when i went through it but now i'm glad it worked out that way cuz it saved me money on excess flights/hotels. oh, and 15 schools is over kill for your stats.

Come on now... your stats are WAY above the average at every dental school in the nation!! :bang: You will get in everywhere you apply easily.
If you would have just done some simple research on average DATs and GPAs of those accepted to dental school you wouldnt even have had to create this thread:

Are those 19s going to bring me down?
...is 15 schools too little?
:bang:

Matter fact where are the moderators please remove this thread from this site ASAP.

People come on, notice how the OP is no longer responding????? HAhAHAHA! This is another one of those "my AA is 30 and my GPA is 4.0 Will I get into any schools?" posts!!! If one has stats like these how in the world does one not know how to do simple research online??? hahahha

I'm calling this one. The GIG is up!!!!

I think it could be a legit question...especially if the OP is trying to get into top schools. I was debating for quite a while whether to retake the DATs because of the 19s.
