i dununderstand how is it that the criteria is a 17 on each section of DAT but the averageis 15 ?? i couldsee how there are "exceptions", people get in with lower DAT ...but if the AVERAGe is 15, doesn't that mean some people, i mean LOTS of people, would have sub-15 dat scores ? i am considergin applying there next year. i see 78% are minorities. does vietnamese count as minority, does anyone know ?

I wouldn't go to Howard personally. I know this is not polite to say, but I think the scores are so low because race is the primary criteria for admission. I don't mean that as a racist comment. If height was the primary criteria for admission at a school then I'm sure that school would have a class of very tall, but acedemically less capable students.

Bloody Gums is right. Generally, their class consists of students who are classified as under represented minorities, and usually their stats aren't quite as high as other schools (although this will probably start changing in the future).

I am Vietnamese too and I always thought I was considered a "minority" until some friends told me otherwise. Being Vietnamese does not technically qualify you as a minority, although depending on the school you apply to, there may be a shortage of Vietnamese dentists in that area (this might help ). At my last interview, I was told that they really like to have diversity in their program (each of the interviewees were from a different cultural background), which I thought was pretty neat.

But you really shouldn't be depending on the color of your skin to get you in to dental school somewhere. Let your stats do all the talking.
