Interested in hearing perspectives on this as someone who will be looking for jobs next year. The current cohort at my program (a NCI comprehensive center) applying is primarily solids and pp focused.

A bit about me. I'm interested in leukemia with a well-known mentor who will go to bat for me. I have some clinical pubs in various domains within malignant heme (though myeloma focused) and a good number of ASH abstracts. Trying to push through an IIT with my current mentor (fingers crossed, not sure how far it'll go but definitely something to talk about)

How hard will it be to land an academic malignant heme position (primarily clinical) with some trial focus? Should I try to do a BMT year at a more known place? No need for sponsorship.

You should be fine-are you geographically limited? I wouldn’t waste a year doing bmt unless you absolutely are pining for a career in bmt/cell therapy or you have no other option.

Thanks, I should have added I'm trying to look at locations to coordinate with my partner's job search and northeast metros are ideal. I have good BMT exposure and so a fellowship would be more to break into a competitive job market. I see you've a veteran here on this forum, from your sense of things, how hard would it be to land at a major academic center in NYC/Philly/Boston?

Was it ever difficult to find an academic malignant heme job?
Haha, I know the malignant heme lifestyle is not ideal, hence my seniors opting for better renumeration in pp or solids jobs, but I just enjoy malignant heme more. By the sound of this, the market is not too bad in your neck of the woods?
