I am a PGY-2 thinking about applying for next year. When is the deadline for HPM fellowship applications?
Thank you!Hey, If you are looking to start right after your PGY 3 year, then you would start the app next June. This year the release date was moved back to August 12th, but usually it is sometime in July. 🙂
Anybody want to add a rejection thread? 😳🙄
Yes, heard from MD Anderson and UT Austin but not George Washington. Has anyone heard from NYU?Has anyone heard anything back from the following programs: MD Anderson, George Washington University, or UT Austin?
Hi All, I hope everyone is doing great and having a wonderful match season.
I would be very thankful if some one could help me in my ROL submission.
I am internal medicine resident, having interest in research. I got interviews from the following programs.
I am confused how should I prioritize my ROL.
1 STANFORD
2 JOHNS HOPKINS
3 MAYO CLINIC ROCHESTER
4 COLUMBIA
5 MAYOCLINIC ARIZONA
6 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
7 UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
8 UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANTONIA
9 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN
10 NYU WINTHROP
11 NEW YORK PRESBYTERIAN FLUSHING QUEENS
12 ALBERT EINSTEIN PENNSYLAVANIA : NEW PROGRAM
13 UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM
14 UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS HOUSTON MCGOVERN MEDICAL SCHOOL
15 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN
16 UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTTA
17 LONGISLAND JEWISH/NORTHWELL
18 TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY LUBBOCK.
19 CITY OF HOPE
I am not geographically restricted, my passion is palliative care so targeting the best program. Goal in future is join academic oncology hospital.
Would highly appreciate, suggestions and constructive criticism regarding my ROL.
Thank you

Very strong list -- and very LONG list!
Impressive that you were able to go through the virtual zoom interviews that many times and keep your sanity.
Thanks for including your goals, that is very helpful.
What I see is a graduating resident that has no geographic preference and picture themselves working on the palliative end of things while being involved with research/teaching at an academic cancer hospital. Did I get that right?
If so, your list is in good shape! Your top 5 programs check pretty much all the boxes you could want -- academic institutions, good volume patients with some zebras thrown in, research opportunities, co-fellows/residents/medical students to teach during fellowship, AND pedigree branding to add a touch of extra shine to your CV if you wish to enter academia. I wouldn't change the order of your top five (going only off of our summary sentence above as parameters).
Besides that, I would move U Wisconsin to the 6/7 spot and UT Houston way up given it's breadth and close relationship/rotations(?) at MD Anderson Cancer Center. (In my mind you don't get more "academic oncology hospital" than MD Anderson.) That said UAB should also likely creep up a little higher on the ROL than currently placed.
Statistically, it is very likely you will match in your top 5, and extremely likely in your top 10. Fret over who is in your top 10 more than who is 14 vs 19 spot.
Really try to decide what part of the country/climate you want to live in, despite you noting no strong geographic preferences -- location, program size, and benefits/COL can make reasonable tie-breakers... How about longer term? Do you want that faculty job to be in the upper midwest? Deep south? New England?
Good luck
Dear Dr. Frazier, thank you very much for taking the time to read my post and giving me your recommendations.
So I made few changes in my ROL
First five are same.
6 U Wisconsin
7 Ohio state University
8 UAB
9 U Minnesota
10 City of hope
11 UT houston MCgovern (You are absolutely right, they are giving 1 month rotation to MD Anderson)
12 Northwell LIJ
13 UT San antonio
14 UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
15 NYU LONG ISLAND
16 NEW YORK PRESBYTERIA QUEENS FLUSHING
17 ALBERT EINSTIEN PA
Once again, thank you, I hope in our professional life we will cross our paths.
