Hey there future DOs! Good luck with your applications and interviews! It's not as bad as you may think. Trust me, I know. Let me know if anyone has any questions about the HPSP program. I am biased towards the Army, but I can answer for all of the services as the requirements are the same, as are the benefits.

ummm, call me crazy, but isnt there another thread like this one u made that's STILL on the front page? (army, navy, or what ever you want to call it, it's still applies)

no need to keep posting these repetitive topics with no real gist to your thread.

Yeah, well I though that people out there with questions about HPSP for another branch might have been turned off from reading the thread with the title being so single-branch oriented.

To future posters: If you don't have something to say about the HPSP, whether it be positive or negative, please refrain from posting here. If you want to say that my posts have no "gist" to them, start your own thread to discuss it. Thanks!

I would warn anyone who is considering HPSP to not do this scholarship unless you TRULY are interested in practicing medicine in the military. I've known too many people who took this route solely for the money, and have regretted their decisions later on.

If you ARE interested in military medicine, this is not a bad way to go at all.

Oops, sorry.....just saw the other thread that's closed on this....still, my opinion applies..

Its great that you have such pride in the HPSP programs, but there's a proper place for spamming around about it. Its called the military section.

Spamming? Last I checked, I hadn't sent you any private messages or Emails about it. This IS a public forum. And posting in the military medicine section is all well and good for those that know a military full ride scholarship exists, but it is those who don't that I am trying to reach. Maybe keep some people from coming out of Med School 200K in debt. Is that a problem?

Right on ArmyDoc1999. 👍

I found out about the HPSP scholarship from a preprofessional advising meeting. If I hadn't gone to the meeting I would not have done it. I agree with gettin' the word out.
nice,

Hey LT, I am with you. I will be a MSI at LECOM this year with the HPSP. How do you get money for books? They told me I wouldn't get a check (stipend) until August 15th. How do they handle textbooks though, isn't that paid with tuitions money? LT (demoted CPT) Kernan

For books and other required equipment, you will need to purchase these out of pocket. Then you submit your receipts to your respective service, and you will be reimbursed.

yeah, military makes alot of sense for sure. at our school they make some books that no one buys "required," therefore all the people on military stipends get them "free" - also known as via tax payers money... if military works for you, enjoy, but be sure you know what the road after medical school holds for you ($), as well as the general perception of VA hospitals...

Just to clarify, as a military doc, you won't be working in VA hospitals. You will be working in military medcens, i.e. Brooke Army Medical Center or Walter Reed Medical Center (when you're not deployed).
