where and when do i apply for the optometry hpsp? are they on a rolling basis?

aside from that, is it competitive to obtain one (i want to know so i have an idea of whether i can take it into account for my financial planning). is it super competitive and everyone wants one, or it is relatively supply-side controlled and easy to get? what do they consider when they look at your applicaiton for hpsp?

thanks!

Hey thanks prettygreeneyes! But blobs, to answer your first question, the Army HPSP deadline is sometime in December. I'm not sure of the other services (Navy and Air Force) but contact your local recruiter for more info.

Yes, overall the competition is pretty fierce. But as I mentioned in another post, the Army provides the most scholarships so your best chances are with them. They look at your GPA, OAT, extracurriculars, personal statement, etc...just like a school app. But the one factor that will help the most will be prior experience with the military, whether it is having a parent in the service or you yourself having prior service. Basically, prior service is a HUGE advantage, and I heard this directly from a conversation with the top Army optometrist, COL Glenesk.
