Being a pre-med, I am prone to panic. So here goes: I'm filling out my Air Force HPSP application and am wondering about this question about contact lenses. I doubt that's really a hold up, is it? Has anyone been accepted to the Air Force Scholarship program while wearing contacts??

OK, next question, slightly more serious. What about debt? My financial situation is ok now, but a couple years ago (like a *****) I took out a mortgage on an investment property and then (surprise!) as a busy undergrad, there was NO way to keep up on it and the property was foreclosed on. Do you think a bad financial situation will keep me out of the scholarship? Like I said, I'm OK now, but my credit score is lousy, lousy, lousy.

Anyone ever been accepted with a similar situation?

Panic......

I believe that your eyesight has to be corrected to no worse than 20/20 via glasses or contacts. I know there are requirements for how bad your eyes can be uncorrected (I think it's 20/400) but I'm not certain on how that exactly works. There are probably different requirements depending on your role (e.g. doctor versus fighter pilot).

I wouldn't stress too much about the contacts. I have friends in the military in the different branches who have corrected eyesight. I doubt contacts alone would get you disqualified.

You aren't flying, so I don't think it'll be a problem.

I got medically disqualified from ROTC years ago for an "automatic disqualifying condition".....I was taking prozac at the time. I have to say, it wound up being ok though. I had some issues with being lied to by the people that I won't discuss. 😛

regarding your eye contacts, it shouldnt be a problem...when you have your physical done, they will test you to make sure you can see properly in addition to the other tests like hearing and so on..

when filling out the application, i think you need to disclose what happened to your financial situation...ask your recruiter about it. However, I dont think it will impact your application in a negative way. Just remember, with the military, u need to tell them everything about you NOW, before you sign any contracts!!! b/c if they find out later about something like this, not that they wont find it now, it can be a problem...

good luck with your application....the Military will treat you good 😀
