Hello. I am a HS Senior and have been accepted to UIC pre- pharm as a chem major. I have a few questions for you all:

1.When you applied to Pharmacy school, did you have a bachelors degree, or is it possible to get in with only 2 years of undergraduate work?

2. If you did complete your bachelors, what was your major? Would I be better off with chemistry or biology?

3. Do you feel like there may be too many pharmacy graduates in the near future?

Thank you!

I will have a bachelors degree, but it is possible to get in with just the pre-reqs done. However it is becoming more common for schools to prefer those with bachelors. My major is Molecular and Cellular Biology. Really just do whatever subject it the most interesting to you. Now for there being too many pharmacy grads it's hard to say. The profession is always evolving so different jobs are going to be created. If you have the skills that someone needs you will always find a job. You just have to know which skills you should have.

1. you don't need a bachelor's degree, but it is prefered. Doing it in 2 years requires a insane amount of work but it is doable (I did).

2. Any bio degree will direct you towards a career in the medical field. Again, as the poster above mentioned, pick something you like to do.

3. there will never be too many pharmacy graduates. Rough estimate, there are 85 pharmacy schools (approx) and say each class is about 100 (approx), that means their are 8500 pharmacists graduating a year. If you also figure about that many pharmacists who retire/turnover, there will continue to be a pharmacist shortage into the near future, even with automation, since the population is getting older (older means more reliant on medication).

I won't have a bachelors degree, but I will have enough credits to technically graduate. I would only be missing 2 courses: PChem 1&2. I figure that's close enough to getting a degree. Of course it's possible to get into pharmacy school with just 2 years of prerequisites, just work hard. I would be 2 courses away from a Biochemistry major.

Yeah... I'll try not to be rude... but your's isn't the first or last "HS Senior!" thread...

If you want to learn a lot really fast, there are any of a number of threads where you can get a lot more answers and a lot less annoyed criticism than by starting a new one like this just by a little searching and reading.

At least you aren't as bad as the last guy who actually "bumped" his thread when it was rightfully ignored.
