what would you do if your dream school contacted you (you were on the standby list) and offered you a fully funded summer enrichment program including housing that is basically academic boot camp: you have to be in class from 8am-5pm, and be in the library from 7pm-11pm everyday. no weekends off for 6 weeks. this does NOT guarantee admission either. and that means that you'd have to drop your current prereq's that you are finishing, cancel your europe vacation, withdraw from a school that you are already enrolled in, AND risk having to defer another year. the cons: all of the above. the pros: if you do well, you MIGHT get into your dream school. you'll be closer to home. you'll be in a city that you like. you'll be taking Gross Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Neurosciences and Pathology and Theoretical Optics.

Sounds like you are rooting for PCO lol. But at any rate, if that is the option they are giving you, it is probably because you may have a weak science GPA or low OAT score. This cannot hinder you in any way, if all goes well, but immerse you and prepare you for a strong academic year that will lie ahead of you. Don't take this as them looking at you as incapable but more as a way for them trying to "prepare" you. Look at it like this, you will have a leg up on your classmates. Does it suck that you have to give up some fun in the sun, it does....but at the end...sacrifice is something that comes along with a 4 year intense curriculum. Good luck and think about it.

can't base my life on MIGHTS.. if I'm in somewhere already, they are gonna have to reassure me that if I do the summer program, that I WILL get admitted. NO MAYBES!!

Did you get an unconditional acceptance anywhere else?

Is this an American school? Sounds like professional slavery.

Some schools do it if you have slighlty lower scores than the norm or if you have been out of school for a bit. The transition can be pretty intense if you aren't used to studying and taking tests after a while..

The situation sounds like if you do really well, they'll let you in. Full funded housing and classes? They're not giving that to you unless you have potential. Show 'em you have that potential and you're in.

As for Europe.. THAT BLOWS. But Europe will always be there. Will the opportunity to go to your dream school always be there if you opt out? No. So take your chances and rock it. :luck:

If you're already in somewhere else, I don't think you gamble with that...."dream school" or not.
