Hey everyone. I was just accepted to a school and this is my last semester in school. However, I'm having huge family/personal problems right now and don't expect to do well this semester at all (maybe a 3.0 gpa for the semester). What do you guys recommend I do? I'm getting very worried but not sure what to do. Should I call the school in advance and explain the situation? Should I ask if they accept a bad grade or two, as long as I meet the pre-req condtions? I'd appreciate any help from anyone. I'm getting really worried. Thanks again.

What should I say? Do I explain the situation, even though it hasn't happened yet? I feel like they would look unfavorably on me if they find out who I am :/ I'm not sure.

Like zackc19 said, call the school ASAP. Explain the situation and they will tell you what you need to do.

I guess I'm just a little afraid to get my name out there as a student they should "worry about". What do you guys expect to happen? Has anyone gone through a situation like this before?

They probably won't do anything; so long as the 3.0 GPA consists of B's and not a mixture of A/B/C. Schools typically rescind acceptances when you drop into the C ranges and even then it's a toss up.

It may be a mixture of what you said, due to just huge conflicting issues with my family/school. I don't expect for it to just be B's. When I called anonymously, they told me that they expected me to "do my best" in the non-pre req courses. I think dropping the course at this point with a W and taking it in the summer before beginning dental school would be better, no?

Schools typically want everything completed by June.

I know that for Tufts, if you get a C-, that holds grounds for them to revoke your acceptance.
C is fine. Just don't get too many of them.

I called and they said courses need to be completed before matriculating, not by June. So would getting 2 C's this semester result in my acceptance being revoked?

Just call them tomorrow. For my schools, anything below a B would result in the re-reviewing of my application and the possible loss of my seat. The policies are entirely dependent on the school.

Are you serious? Are you sure its not like any pre-reqs below a B will result in re-review?

That is a bit harsh

This is for UCSF,
"All in progress or planned course work for the fall 2012, winter 2013 and/or spring 2013 terms must be completed with a grade of "B" or higher."

This is for Penn,
"I also understand that if I receive any grade below "C" for remaining course work planned or in progress on my AADSAS application, that this is unacceptable and that my acceptance may be withdrawn."

I'm not speaking from experience, so just know what I'm saying is my opinion -

Stop worrying about it and call the school as soon as you can. Tell them who you are and fully explain the situation. Think about it- you got accepted to the school so whatever's happening this semester is obviously not going to be typical of you as a student. Some things happen unexpectedly in life and if it's something that you can overcome and still enroll in dental school, it wouldn't think they'd revoke your seat.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out and of course, try your very best from here on out. :luck:

So you guys recommend telling the school what exactly is going on BEFORE it actually happens? That is really the part that worries me. Especially telling them my name and putting the burden on them that they should worry about me this semester. That's just how I view it, of course I'm viewing it a little differently than they probably are.

asking us wouldnt solve anything because we are not ADCOMs...

what if you don't tell the school? next they find out you got average, or worse, grades and pull your seat right out from under you. then it comes to light the annulment of your acceptance could have been avoided had you only let your school know ahead of time.

how would that make you feel?

i fail to understand your hesitation because grades aren't in and nothing bad has happened yet...unless the faculty wore nazi uniforms and rapped students' knuckles with flails a la catholic sunday school.

if so, good luck.
