Is this supposed to mean they use AA or not:confused:  if it means they do use AA then it seems a little hypocritical to have this statement.

Affirmative Action Statement

The University of Tennessee does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, handicap, or veteran status in provision of educational opportunities or employment opportunities and benefits. The University does not discriminate on the basis of sex or handicap in the education programs and activities which it operates, pursuant to the requirements of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Pub. L. 92-318; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Pub. L. 92-112, respectively. The policy extends to both employment by and admission to the University. Inquiries concerning Title IX and Section 504 should be directed to the Office of Affirmative Action, 822 Beale Street, Suite 215, Memphis, Tennessee, 38163, (901) 448-5558. Charges of violation of the above policy should also be directed to the Office of Affirmative Affairs.

Well, they use the word discriminate not in its proper sense. They mean the negative connotation that certain races will be treated poorly.

Of course, when you have a zero-sum game like medical school admissions, the favoring of one race as a URM (a positive) automatically puts other races in the negative category. Thus while you COULD make the argument that this is discriminatory, the mission statement is speaking only in regards to not discriminating AGAINST certain races directly.
