Hi all,
I know we need 2 science and one other letter for recommendations, but does this letter HAVE to be from a "humanities" professor? What departments counts under this? Does public health or public policy and planning count? History? Italian? African American Studies? Nursing Studies? OR IS IT JUST HUMANITIES courses? Can the letter be from anything that's not a science (not bio, not phys, not math, and not chem)? Does it depend on the school? If so, how could I find out about specific schools?
I am a third year Bio major now. The last time, I had a humanities professor that I talked to was my freshman year. I'm debating contacting that professor and getting back in touch or taking a humanities course in the spring and getting to know a new professor. And if it doesn't have to be just humanities, then I could take something that might count toward my minor too (my minor is not humanities and most humanities courses wouldn't count toward it).
Please inform me!
Thanks 😀

The last humanities class you had was freshman year? You've not taken a english litt class or social science class since freshman year either? Anything that's not a hard science can be equated to being a humanities or somewhat reflective of humanities.

I had social sciences last year but the class was way too easy to be worth going to office hours for 😛
So what if I take a Nursing Sciences course? Would that be ok? It's one that would count toward my minor; something on community-based health-care.
Do the schools put this type of information on their websites?
Also, about the English course. I haven't ever taken one in college because my humanities core course covered that breadth requirement. Should I still be thinking about taking a plain "English" course?
Thanks!

You've never taken English comp? I would recommend that because most medical schools want to see 1 year of english comp + some sort of lit( can be substituted for a humanities class which is heavy in writing.)

Well, my humanities course was very heavy in writing. 8 unites: 4 units of lecture and 4 units of writing. And for a whole year: 3 quarters.
So is that enough?
And again, would the Nursing sciences course do?

Nursing science < word science is in there.. But idk it might who knows.

well, where should I check to be sure? should I check on each of the individual school's websites? does the aamc have info that would clear this up? I really don't want to be applying on the basis of... well... maybe they will be ok with it... 😱:scared:

Neh... I think you should just find a old humanities teacher and take his upper level class. Attempt to get a relationship and get a good letter of recommendation.
