One of the ctivities that I'm putting on the AMCAS is sewing/clothing design. In addition to a short description of this hobby of mine, I'm considering adding a bit of humor - "I'm hoping my sewing skills will give me a jumpstart in suturing once my surgery rotation rolls around."

Would this be appropriate? Will they understand that I'm not being serious?

rude comment, totally unnecessary.

I would only put this hobby down if you are REALLY hurting for things to include. They really want to see either clinical-related activities or leadership activities, such as involvment in school.

sorry, i was unclear, my comment was about the "funny section" of the EC, not the hobby. don't be THAT funny

I would put it down if it means something to you (ie I would NOT include it if the entire purpose is to be humorous). Regardless, I would leave the humor OUT. It sounds entirely unprofessional and seems too informal for AMCAS. If it comes up during an interview, thats another story.

OP- If your sewing/clothing design EC can only be included by dropping something clinical or leadership, don't include it.

But if you have the space, do keep it in. Talk to folks who have applied and you'll find artistic ECs come up as often as leadership ones. It helps the adcoms get a sense of you as a person. You don't look like another "college club leadership/lab rat/ER volunteer" applicant.

But I'd leave out the humor unless it's incredibly witty and sure to be appreciated. I didn't really find the sewing joke all that great. Nothing personal.

I would include the activity but not the humor.
