so as much as i would love to find a 1999 version of hy cell and molec bio, i can't seem to track one down. is the 2nd edition so terrible that i shouldn't even waste my time on it, or is it better than having nothing at all for this subject? also is there an alternative source that i could use?

Try half.com ... you will find one there. I found mine for 19.99 plus shipping, not bad at all (brand new).

I downloaded it also, from another site though. Fairly good copy as far as those high yield pdfs go.

Good god $83 on amazon

Next time I recommend a book I'm buying a case first.

Maybe I should write one

That's just insane. I picked it up for about $10 on half.com a month or so ago. Amazon was about $50 then. I just checked, and half.com has only one for $120. 😱

Editing to add that I did a quick search on this topic -- the people in this thread seemed to like BRS for cell so that might be a better option than the new edition of HY.

I know HY has gotten thicker, but I doubt that it's bigger than BRS.

The old version isn't worth $50; if I were taking Step I in '08 I'd just get the shorter of new HY and BRS and use some common sense to attack it with a marker and cross out all the facts that seemed useless.

Hey M2's, want to get a 270 on the boards? Well, the only book you need is "PeepshowJohnny's Do Gooder on Boards 2008". Now available for the low low price of $199.99!

WHAT?! That is ridiculous. Just buy the new version, start a week earlier to read through it. Its pretty obvious what in the book is especially relevant for boards and what isn't. The molecular bio on boards is not that bad.

You know what, later today I'm just going to start a thread that has (imo) all of the cell and molecular bio you really need to know. Feel free to add onto the list, fellow post-step1 folks.
