Hi all,

So I want to take O-Chem 1 over the summer, but noticed that the lab is hybrid... meaning, the lab lectures are online (i think) and the experiments are done in-class. The lecture portion itself is in-class as well.

Will this fulfill the requirement even though part of the lab meets online???

Hi all,

I did a search but couldn't find any specific results. So I want to take O-Chem 1 over the summer, but noticed that the lab is hybrid... meaning, the lab lectures are online (i think) and the experiments are done in-class. The lecture portion itself is in-class as well.

Will this fulfill the requirement even though part of the lab meets online???

Thanks in advance!

Yes

thank you come again

Cool, thanks! A follow-up question: Is it generally accepted everywhere, or fairly dependent on each school?

As long as your transcript doesn't say Organic Chemistry Lab Online, then schools won't have any idea. I think you should be fine. More and more lecture based classes are using Blackboard or online "classroom" supplements anyway.

Accepted everywhere normally when it says online they are talking about ITT Tech, or some other type of online college. If done through your school your covered.

I have one lab that was combined that way, but my transcript shows it just like the cell bio lab that I spent hours hunched over a microscope.

I'm with Ed. I went out of my way to MAKE SURE I took full classes for all my prereqs, which ended in me spending every waking moment for 1.5 years either at work or at school. A friend of mine is applying to pharmacy school and took a couple of the same courses as me (like orgo) but half online and her course is listed exactly as mine is on the transcripts. I was not pleased, but at least if they ask me in an interview if any of my courses were online I can say no.

It doesn't say "online" on the course title, but there might be an indication on the course #... for instance, it normally is Chem 3AL for the lab, but it's listed as Chem N3AL. I called some target schools and most said its fine, others warned against it.... ah!!!

Yes, this is why I also want to make sure it's all full in-class sessions too, so I don't have to worry about this stuff. But I registered/payed, then the school sent an email about computer requirements.

I went part-time at work for summer classes and will have more free time for orgo. Bleh.

OP, please don't double post the same thread in more than one forum.

I think as long as you're doing actual experiments in an actual lab, it's fine if you do the prep part on line.
