Hydride shifts

I can't seem to find any good material about hydride shifts, plus i never learned them in my lovely ochem class. Do they only occur in E1 reactions since there is a carbocation intermediate? Do they occur in SN1? What about E2 and SN2?

they occur in SN1 and E1 but not on the others. since these are the only ones that are concerned with a carbocation stability.
