I have a hypothetical question for all of you out there. If you were asked to withdraw from the match to sign a 1 year contract for a PGY2 prelim position would you do it?
Keep in mind you have no guarantee of a categorical position at the end of the contract and you have already spent money on applications and flights to programs you have been asked to interview with, and you could end up again without a permanent residency position in December 2013 when the contract ends.

Did you mean you have a rhetorical question?

Are you currently an intern? For what field are you applying?

It's hard to advise you without more facts. Most surgery prelims are dead end paths unless they tell you it's categorical, or unless prior year's prelims have had a high degree of success staying on as categoricals.

Is this PGY-2 Prelim spot at a different institution than the one where you completed your PGY-1 year? Is there a good chance you're going to go elsewhere for your PGY-3 year?

Be careful about bouncing around from program to program...
