So if you had the opportunity to meet with the director of admissions at your top choice dental school mid-cycle...would you? (i know stupid question) but what if you had to fly to a different state to do so? Would it be worth it? and what would you talk about?

hahahaha so you're asking us to make the decision for you?

do you have something to talk about with him/her? if so, go for it. if not, stay home.

if you feel you need to "show your face" at the school to get your name more out there, then by all means go for it.

if you have the money to spare, do it.

if not, and you need to go, can you borrow it?

if not, and you dont need to go, don't go.

I would 100% go if I had my heart set on the school. I offered to at VCU but the Asst. Dean of Admissions told me that instead we could communicate through email. At any rate, I offered to come down the 10 hours to meet with him. Bottom line is make yourself known... in any positive way you can. Just be careful. Seems there is a fine line between being determined and being obnoxious. I'm certain I have crossed that line before, but it's better not to of course 😉

haha i was trying not to be too obvious....well the deal is that my brother recently graduated dental school and his school is my top choice. I was going to visit him for a week and im gonna try to set up an appt with the director of admissions. I really dont want to come off as desperate or anything like that so ill try to mention to him that i am doing this so that he knows that im determined to go there.

do you think he will review my file with me? I want to touch base on a couple of topics and make sure he knows where i stand. Ill mention them regardless of if he pulls out my app or not. hopefully this will help me and not hurt me. thanks for the advice guys.

I doubt he will go over your file with you. That might be bending the rules a bit. But if you can set up a appt. with him/her, go for it!

Having a sibling that just graduated from your school of choice and meeting the admin. director can only help you. Good luck man!

I tried to do that once but they said I wasnt allowed to talk to them while I still had an active appliaction 😡

I talked to the assit dean of admin at Houston before I turned in my application just to get my name out there. Let him know taht I was really interested in the school and to make sure I was on the right track. I think its a good idea. Not many people area willing and bold enough to take the time to sit down for 30 min to talk to the dean of admissions.

yeah i figure i have nothing to lose. he already set up the appt with me over the phone so i guess im good to go. my undergrad GPA isnt all that great so i feel like i have to outshiiiine all you smart folks out there somehow.
