I am 23... Is it normal or am I too old to try to become a Osteopathic Physician...?

Hi all.. I am currently a 23 year old person with a Bachelors degree. However, I am contemplating becoming a DO... Idk.. I just didn't do premed when I entered college at age 17... I was scared of making the commitment and I just wasn't confident enough in dedicating 8 years to get a MD/DO... But I feel a lot more mature and smarter to handle basic sciences and other courses..

But another part of me says I am too old because I am 23 and I would probably be 25-26 when I get into DO school if I applied, while also Having about 250k-300k by the time I would be 29-30... I mean If I tried premed from the start. I would already be done with DO/MD at age 25 and be done with residency at 29...

I just don't know I feel like I have regrets about not trying premed and becoming a Physician...

Any advice? Thanks.

This looks like a troll post but I will bite. The average age of students entering medical schools is around 26 years old so 25 years old is still quite young.

I am absolutely not trolling... I am dead serious lol.

I was 23 when I started my post-bacc journey. I will be starting med school here in July at the age of 26. From what I have seen, this is not abnormal.

Doogie Howser was 14 when he finished med school. Pretty much anything over 12 when you enter and you're too old. I suggest you start looking for retirement property in Florida, OP.

I would recommend LECOM Bradenton to the OP. There is Sun City Center about 15-20 minutes from the campus, so there should be a very smooth transition from medical school into a retirement home.

Absolutely brilliant comment.

I'm starting DO school at 22 and my brother started at an MD school at 22. He said there is a huge difference in maturity levels between him and classmates that were 25+ at the beginning of first year. So being older can help with patient interactions and life exp

Dunno if troll or not. But in case this is not a troll post. I and a number of other people that I know will be starting in our early 30's. If you want to do it, do it. 25-26 too old...geez kids these days 😉

patience is a virtue and the need for instant gratification is not.

Some of my all time best students have been in their 30s and 40s, and last year I just graduated one at 50. So, no, you who are only two years over the legal drinking age are not too old.

I am absolutely not trolling... I am dead serious lol.

To be fair, OP is currently the oldest that s/he has ever been. And just getting older every day.

I didn't even start seriously considering medical school until I was 10 years older than you, and then it still took a few more years to do something about it. You'll be fine.

LURK MOAR, which is to say, spend some more time here reading threads and absorbing the wealth of excellent advice that can be found here. Read threads that don't immediately interest you as well as ones that do. Use the search function and read old threads about topics you want to know more about. Read, read, read, and only sparingly write questions and comments of your own, so that you become familiar with the basics, so that when you do begin to post more, no one will assume you are a troll.

I'm 24 and yes I am going to medical school starting this fall. You aren't too old when the average age typically is around 24-25 for many medical schools.

I got my bachelors at 22, went back to do pre-reqs at 28, got an acceptance a few months ago and will be matriculating at 32, so you're definitely not too old. Not even close.

Good to know they're not killing anyone in a region of the country 😀

OP, my 33 year old friend with a wife and son started med school this year.

lol ive seen better trolling in Pre Allo than this crap
