Does anyone have the acceptance stats for U of Wisconsin? I know that an interview is a good sign but as an out-of-stater are my chances pretty low? I have below their average mcat but great extracurriculars. I know they value extracurriculars at this school. If anyone can give me any info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I dont think your ec/stats make much difference now. They obviously like something about you a lot. Last year 35% of out of state interviews were eventually accepted (40% of instate were). USNews.

That being said, they use a point system for acceptances and MCAT and GPA both account for 1/2 points. If you do not reach the predetermined range you will not receive the points, its been posted that the MCAT point is for scores greater than 30 and the GPA is a little more blurry pending course difficulty, honors programs, and trends.

ah yes the point system...you still don't stand at much of a chance being out of state. They favor UW madison students big time. I also would imagine they are looking for a lot of their diversity from out of state students. I think the interview means you have a shot at least.

When are you interviewing there? I'm also out-of-state and my interview is coming up soon....

Why is that on the Creighton website?

Waitlist/Alt pool is 5.5-6.0, while above and below are the accept/reject. Otherwise that is basically the discription at my interview.

It's a Creighton website because I go to Creighton!

Go! If you have an interview is because they are considering you seriously for their incoming class. I am an out-of-state, and have been accepted at UW-Madison!

Are you from michigan or is that also out of state?

I'm an out-of-stater, and I received an interview invite from UW Madison. I was TOTALLY shocked, especially because I hadn't even turned in my secondary at the time! It's coming up in about a week, and I'm a little stressed although their e-mails have emphasized the informal, relaxed tone the interview will have.

CreativeWriter -- Any suggestions on how I should prepare for this interview? I'm seriously considering UW, as I've heard great things about the place.

Restating my first post, I completely agree -if you want to attend UW. For instate vs. out of state interviews, the % of acceptances offered was only 5% different (35 vs 40). So disregard that post about not having a shot, that no longer applies once you have an interview.

To the OP, for sure go to your UW interview! Once you get an interview invite as an out of state resident, your chances are pretty good. Wisconsin has an awesome program and many unique qualities as compared to other medical schools, not to mention the brand new HSLC building which houses the Med School.

I live in madison and am finishing up my undergrad at UW-Madison. PM me if you have any questions.

When I went to the UW interview, there was a thing the night before that was optional. it was ok...didn't learn any earth-shattering info, but it also answered some questions and gave some additional info about the schedule and stuff for the next day. kinda helpful. the interview day itself was pretty relaxed...there were some speakers (financial aid, director of admissions, an adcom guy, important director-type guy from the hospital). then was the interview and then the tour (i think it was in that order...been a while). really relaxed the whole time. UW had 2 interviews...the first was with a doctor and is your traditional, open-file interview. pretty relaxed. but the 2nd one was like a small-group interview....it was maybe 3 or 4 applicants with 2 medstudents...really odd. i don't know what to do in that situation cause i didn't want to talk too much or not enough...conversation really seemed forced for everyone there. just a warning. but yeah, prep for the UW interview day like you would for anywhere else and don't get too stressed. it was really relaxed. i liked UW a lot.

Group interview?? That's different! 😕

Thanks for your advice 🙂 I keep hearing how relaxed it is, so I'm not stressed out or anything.. just want to do my best. :luck:

yeah the group interview thing was weird. i heard it might've just been for the current students to get an impression on if they think you'd fit in with the current student body. anyway, good luck. 🙂

I really liked my group interview. The 2 students we had were really nice, and it was more of an informal Q &A time. I have no idea how in the world they evaluate us, but they somehow do off of that time.

I am a little concerned about the point system however. For example, it's +0.5 points for a 30 MCAT - I have a 29. It's +0.5 points for a 3.8 gpa - I have a 3.77ish. Well, hopefully they like me 😍

OP, definitely take the interview. Wisconsin is a great school, with new facilities and awesome people. Just think, since you're out-of-state, getting the interview is 3/4 of the battle. For me, getting the interview doesn't mean much since it was automatic. Good luck :luck:
