Hi everyone,
I signed up for DAT exam last year around Mid November. you get an email saying that you have 6 months to take your DAT. Hence, I have till May 9th to take the DAT for the first time.
Unfortunately, I was not able to really study actively for the exam due to family , sickness and work problems. It was really hard for me. I feel so frustrated and bad about it.

I have scheduled my exam on may 8th. I have really only 1 month to sit down and study hard for the DAT.

I am just wondering If I still can cancel and reschedule my exam later?
Do I have to pay for the DAT exam 415$ because I was not able to take it within the 6 months period I was given in the first place??
I am really confused about that . I tried to contact the Prometric and ADA officials but no feedback.

I noticed that when I tired to pick an exam day , the calender shows the dates available till May 9th which means that I have to take it by May 9th or otherwise lose the money. Is that true ? I am not sure!!!

I feel bad and confused because I really do not want to pay the 415$ again . I I am planning to focus and study hard for 1 month on and take the exam.
my study schedule starts tomorrow and I am planning to study for at least 10 hours a day.

What would you guys do If you were in my seat?
Would you take study hard for a month to take the exam or you just cancel it and pay the 415 again to gain more study time?

Sorry for the long message but I am really confused and I would love to hear your feedback.
Thank you in advance.

they raised the price of the exam already?? i signed up last october and it was 385.

yeah you would have to eat the total cost of the test if you don't take it by that date. i say go for it. not gonna hurt anything by studying till then anyway.

They did raise it to 415$ this year. I am just afraid that 1 month will not be enough to do well on DAT. I am not sure If anyone has done well just studying 1 month.
I am applying to dental schools this year so If I don't do well on the first time, then I have to wait 3 months to retake it. it is complicated. !!

reschedule DAT.png

This is what is stated in the 2015 ADA handbook. If I am reading correctly you can reschedule for $100, which is better than the whole fee.

I think you have 6 months to schedule after you paid the test fees. Then if you already scheduled your test, but want to reschedule they give you these time periods that @orgoman22 posted. So, if you passed the 6 month period and you didn't schedule then you missed the test, you would have to pay full fees.
You can call and ask to make sure.

I read it. I am just confused why they give 6 months period time to take the test then ?
In other word , can I still do the reschedule for 100$ even though I passed the 6 months period????
Oh, yes I see your point. I guess no choice then but to call. I will try to get an answer to your question tomorrow.

Thank you Nancy.
I just want to know if these fees that you listed are valid for those who Wants to reschedule the test after passing the 6 months period.
I look forward to your answer.

Thank you Nancy, I appreciate that.

Hi One Piece

I have some info for you. You can call the ADA testing board and request an extension. They will grant extensions based on the reason. The good news is there is still hope you can avoid paying the testing fee again.

Here is the number

Please be sure to let s know the outcome.

Thank you so much Dr Nancy. I appreciate your help.
I did give them a call; the lady said that I need to email the ([email protected]) and explain them my situation.
I did email them. I just hope they reply back because they usually do not get back to you.

So I did talk to the ADA testing board and they won't allow any extension for me. They said that the only extension that they allow is that you have a demise of family member or illness in the testing day.
They said that I need to basically not attend to the exam date and submit a new application with full fee later .

Thanks for the update! Sorry it didn't work out. I do highly recommend you do not take the test until you are prepared, of course no one likes to lose money but better lose the money than potentially end up with a less than desired DAT scores. It's best to take the test 1 time and Destroy it.

Thanks again and good luck in your studies..

Nancy
