As a warning, these questions are not likely to appear on the DAT, as there are many DAT exams.
Biology,
1. embryology-(know mesoderm, ectoderm, endoderm and what tissue they form)
2. Genetics- ( i had to know how to do a dihybrid cross) ex. Rrbb x rrBB
3. Cell respiration-know basic stuff,
4. Ecology- .
5. Plant physiology- .
Air respiration:
7. Animal kingdom study the animal phyla.
8. Question on protein chemistry
9. Question on bone physiology: study your bone matrix
10. out of the park question, was why do sea urchins have a fertilization membrane around there zygote, my guess was it had to do with only allowing one sperm, i could be wrong.
Can't think of any more biology questions.
topics that weren't really covered in detail,
hormones weren't covered at all, I was pissed about that. Didn't really go into phylas, like they could have.
Chemistry: pretty straight forward.
topics covered
kinetics
bond angles
hybridization, just name what type of bond a double, single or triple, whether it is sp, sp2, sp3
Stochiemtry is covered, not a lot of questions
equilibrium formula
Calculate density based on mm, v, press and r, dealing with pv=nrt formula
there was a quesiton where they give you the table with reaction a and b, if you double or triple this your concentration does what calculate whether its 1st, 2nd,3rd order.
can't think of anything else, pretty straightforward.
I would like to mention, that there was very few calcualtion, more set up the equation.
Organic, good section, just study kaplan and you will do fine.
my first question was a synthesis type question. not too bad ends up with an alcohol.
there was one biochem question on what does lycine look like in a acidic ph.
one naming question
a lot of questions dealing with SN1 and SN2, and E1 and E2. reactions, solvents used, steps involved, kinetics of each reaction. EAsy though
basic reactions of alcohols, amides, aldehydes and carboxylic acids.
there was a gringnard reaction, but that just equals a alcohol.
one quesiton dealing with NMR, I had no clue about how many dublets or triplets there are in a structure.
There was a calcualte a sterioisomer question, basically how many sterioisomers there are for this particular structure. its a formula.
Reading was easy, I finished 15 minutes early.
passage 1 asteroids and comets
passage 2 xray and other brain imaging equipment
passage 3 MSG and brain receptors.
passage 1 was easiest, followed by 2 then 3
I did not read the passages at all, just looked for answers. I got above a 20 on that section.
PAT, was not as straightforward, the monitors suck that makes such a huge deal, the lines are not straight, I think they should just throw out that section or atleast get monitors with better resolution.
MAth, I not very good at math, but there was a lot of alegbra, and simple math promblems. a
couple of proablilty questions, not too bad.
word problems were pretty easy not too complicated.
there was a couple of geometry question in which you had to figure out the area of a rhombus type figure.
Trig was straight forward, you had to find the side based on Sohcahtoa or find what sin of 0 equals.
If i were u I would get the GRE math workbook, questions are almost a good indicator of what type of math to expect, Kaplan does really hard math questions.
Hope this help man
I am just glad its over I don;t have to look a DAT prepbook at all.
Just to give you a frame of reference, I took the DAT for the second time, first time a 17 this time a 19.
I took the Kaplan prep course and then studied on my own for 5 weeks afterword.
Buy topscore, but don;t get sad if you score 15 and 16 just use as a gauge.
take care
