Guys, I applied this cycle. It seems as if wherever I interview at, I get rejected or wait listed. I have only interviewed at five schools, but I have been rejected from one and the rest i have been wait listed. I got a 22TT, 21TS, and 20 PAT. My gpa is 3.56 with a sci gpa of 3.72. I havent murdered anyone, cheated in college or anything of the sort. I called one school and they told me my interview scores were above average so im guessing im good at that too. I am just wondering is it me or are schools looking for something different?

Please give me an answer. If you want specifics, just PM me. Thanks

when did you apply? early in the cycle? did you interview pre-december? That really scares me tho bc you do have some awesome stats there! Try calling the schools or set up a meeting. Meet with the dean or get a hold of someone on the admissions committee.

With that GPA and DAT.... statistically speaking, you should get at least 1 acceptance... I mean 5 interviews is alot as-is.

Whats your ECs like? Shadowing hours?

Call the school that rejected you and find out whats up....

I'm sorry, but the people at the schools won't tell you that you suck as an interviewer. To make a long story short, you REALLY need to work on your interviewing skills. You should have easily gotten in somewhere with 5 interviews. I honestly think it's the interview.

It could be any number of things:

low shadowing hours, bad LOE, poor interviewing skills, poorly written letter of intent

my guess that it is a combo of at least a couple of these things. your grades are fine, DAT is fine. call the schools and find out why you didn't get in. they may lie to you but then again they may tell you the truth, the question is, can you handle the truth?

+1

thank you for your comments. I dont think it was the interview because i am not shy in anyway, and i can carry on a meaningful conversation about the dental field with practically anyone. I did apply a little late in the game so that may be why. One of the interviews that I had, the interviewer told me that if i had applied earlier, then i would have gotten accepted.

What do you guys think i should do at this point?

you can always be prepared for next cycle. I've only gotten 1 interview and I'm getting ready for june already.

well... nothing. You are placed on hold at 4 places right? I think you'll get in.... IF worst comes and you don't, just apply early next cycle 🙁 I know you don't want to hear that, but its your only option.

I think that you will probably end up getting in. If for some reason you don't, just hit that apply button ASAP. I learned that lesson too.

with stats like that, there are only a few reasons as to why you didn't get in this cycle... applying late, poor LORs, poor interviewing skills. If you don't end up getting in this cycle, figure what you need to change/improve... and apply early! I'm talking about having everything complete with AADSAS by the end of June. The majority of applicants struggle with the "stats" portion of their application... you just have to work on whatever else is keeping you from the multiple acceptances that you should be getting

Only?

With five interviews, applying late, poor LORs are unlikely to have had any bearing on the present situation.

I don't get the original point of this thread. If an interviewer had already told you that you applied late then that should be the obvious reason why you are not accepted or waitlisted...

How late did you apply? Specifically

Also, I would guess its your interviewing skills. Just because you can carry on a meaningful convo about DENTISTRY does not say anything about you. The interview is looking for who you are, confidence, and your ability to think. You have to stand out and have things to talk about. And i'm not talking about things you have memorized for answers.....Ive seen too many robots at my interviews

Unless all your interviews were for alternate positions (which I highly doubt), you should have at least one. 5/6 of my interviews were in Jan/Feb and I got 4 acceptances out of these and I applied late (last LORs sent Oct 15) so I'm not sure if being late was a main reason why (for most schools you interviewed at least).

This is obviously not a numbers problem but an interviewing problem. Are you coming off as not genuine; are you telling them you're becoming a dentist to solve world hunger? 5 interviews and no acceptances means something's going on in your interviews and you have to pinpoint it... only you can help yourself at this point...

Agree with Doc Toothache. If you got 5 interviews, you got passed the screen (ie, ps, lors, dat, etc).

It's the interview. I was in a similar situation before, was on the waitlist at UMich, and just got an acceptance there. So keep ya head up! :xf:

so i called two of the schools that i applied too and i asked about my interview. One of them actually gives a grade and he said that I did great on my interview. Would they be lying to me? Would it be because I applied late?

Maybe they did not like the way you parted your hair.
