trust me when i failed my CK, i thought ill never amount to anything and started buying lottery tix left and right, this was when it hit billion$$. struck out obviously

Good for you, but with all of the unmatched people with no red flags points out, your story also points out an outcome that has to do with the hyper applying situation. Just like applicants have to stratify where they apply to get some second and third tier options, programs have to pass over more qualified applicants to get some that make them fill. Somethings got to give (good movie if you haven't seen it). Two wave early acceptance? Application limits (unlikely)? It has to change or we will start seeing programs go all out instead of all in.

i matched there bc i did an audition rotation there and they liked me. worked hard for those 4 weeks and had a great rapport with the residents and they vouched for me

Then you earned it and again, well done. You may not be the example that illustrates what I'm complaining about, but the match is crushing under its own weight. It is beginning to fail in its mission.

That's not luck. That's hard work and perseverance, despite obstacles. Congrats.

Wow, not sure whether to congratulate you or console those who busted their asses for 4 long years (not just 4 weeks) only to go unmatched. Social skills and timing are great equalizers.
